Durable AT& T phones? recommendations, anyone? [More:]We're switching from Verizon to AT&T tomorrow and I need to figure out which phone to get.

I drop phones, they ride around in my purse (which has tools in it, occasionally) and they get wet, though I try not to submerse them.

Is there an AT&T phone that can handle this and also has a decent battery life?
I have a Razr and have never had any problems with it.

Well, there WAS one time when the cat spilled a glass of water on the nightstand, and the phone sat in it for a while. It needed a new sim card thingy, but the AT&T store replaced it for free.

(And there was also an incident last night, in this weird dream I had, where a woman at an information desk -- I was lost -- offered to program a map into my phone. But instead, she somehow re-mapped the number keys so that pushing '7' actually dialed a '1', and dialing '2' actually was the letter P, and '9' brought up a picture of my cat. It was very frustrating.)

really? They look incredibly vulnerable. I wouldn't have guessed they'd be durable.

I had a Nokia 6126 for a little while before I went back to work and got a Blackberry. The Nokia was a clam-shell design and felt pretty solid. It had kind of a rubbery exterior texture, though I doubt that added an extra cushion. I also had a Samsung clam-shell phone for a few days and it also felt pretty solid--I just didn't like the exterior screen.

The phone I had before the Nokia 6126 was a RAZR. I got it the day they came out and it held up strong for 2.5 years. The Nokia felt heftier though.

Yeah, the Razr is surprisingly durable. Mine's lasted longer than any other phone I've ever had.

Dunno, s_r. I've dropped mine a few times. A couple of times the cover came flying off, but all I had to do was put it back on. I've had it for pretty much exactly a year, and it looks brand-new. I certainly wouldn't say it's been treated with kid gloves.

And I dunno if AT&T sells 'em, but Nokia's basic candybar phones have a good rep for durability. Alternately, there are a few ruggedized phones aimed at contractors/tradespeople/outdoor adventurers/children and senior citizens.

I have a Samsung phone that I drop nearly every day, pour soda on it, leave in my 130°F+ car, etc, and it's still going strong after two years. It's all banged up, but works perfectly.

Of course, it's two years old now, so they probably don't sell it any more. I think Samsung A437 is the new version of it.

thanks!

does anyone have the motorola v365? That's one they're offering. I'm going to look up the rest of the ones you've suggested, too. Maybe they're still available.

It looks pretty similar to my samsung phone.

I also have a Nokia 6126. It is fine except for:

1. Horrible battery life. . I mean every day and a half I need to charge it.

2. The camera button is always getting activated when I handle the phone.

3. I would like to make the display print larger but I do not think there is a way of doing it.

another vote for the razr. Mine's been ejected at +20mph off the bike (from my shoulder holster) a couple times, the only thing that's happened so far is it cracked the glass over the camera lens, which I don't give a rat's fart about since I never use my camphone to shoot pics. Also: I have arrived at work looking as though I swum there on more than one occasion with the phone exposed to the weather (turned on, riding in an open shoulder holster) and so far no damage. Coming up on 2 years in October and the battery is still in excellent shape.
