So... who are we using for domain name registrations these days? I hate that godaddy turned out to be assholes... I hate starting again. But I won't use them any more... who now? [More:]

I just tried Joker, which I think dabitch recommended at one point, but I had a hang up with paying with my card.

I just want an honest registrar that doesn't try to cheat or trick me *glares at godaddy*, and will just be stable, dependable, and easy to use. Is that asking too much?
joker.com! German, efficient, no mess no fuss and pretty OK pricing. Do not use their nameservers though, zoneedit.com helps you there for free*

*offer only available for up to 4 domains.

(disclaimer, I never use the nameservers of any registrar regardless who they might be, it's not because they were bad - I just never used them and don't know how it works frankly.)

I switched to namecheap from godaddy a couple years ago. Been satisfied with them...dunno if they are assholes. If they are, at least they're more quiet about it than godaddy.

I had a problem with the verification of my credit card there, dabs, which is less to do with Joker, I think, than my card provider situation. I run into this sometimes, but not usually.

I'm using 1and1.com with no problems so far, except for annoying upgrade offers every few weeks.

I just moved from 1&1 to namecheap. Mainly because I can set up my DNS records in the same place as the domain registration. They seem fine & they've got a good rep. Plus, I can pay with paypal.

Not so sure about 1and1. My office has service through them and we've not had the best time of it...

I used directNic back when I had a website. Never had a problem.

I am about to switch registars. Probably to gandi, since according to a friend:

"they are to my knowledge the ONLY
registrar whose terms of service explicitly state that you *own* your
domain, you're not just renting it by the week, and it cannot be taken
away from you except for non-payment or a legitimate, *proven* dispute."

I've been happy with joker.com for years, though I do get a call from my credit card company everyone once and a while to make sure I'm not being ripped off by German financial hackers or whatever.

I registered some names with dotster.com, mostly because MeFi was and is registered there. No problems. Godaddy was a hugeass pain when somebody bought a domain name from me.

I have been using Gandi for quite a long time and haven't ever had any problems, ever. The biggest annoyance I've had was that, for a while, their "your domain is about to expire" were in both French and English -- the top part was French, the bottom English. It was kind of annoying to have to scroll to the middle of the message, but they seem to have switched all the mail I get from them to English. They might be more expensive now that the dollar is weak against the Euro, but I'm still willing to pay it.

i like pairnic - they seem to have got the user interface right and they rarely e-mail me abut anything other than expirations

1and1 is god awful. Avoid them like the plague.

Thanks, kids! I went with Gandi, cuz they won me over with their supported projects page, and they seem like they are trying to be a positive entity.
