17 May 2008

It's Saturday night... [More:]And I'm staying in. We are playing Star Wars on the PS3 and watching Tim Russert. Should I go to Blockbuster and get some movies? Should I get a 6-pack of lite beer? That would be fun. I'm trying to be really "good" and not drink empty calories, but it's Saturday night! Maybe I'm craving some fun and thinking beer will give me some fun. *sigh*

What are you doing tonight?
Well, it's 8 and I have no plans, so looks like I"m staying in, too! I have to finish putting away the laundry- this will mainly involve putting the sheets back on the bed and moving all hung-up shirts to the closet. I was also thinking of moving the spring stuff from under the bed to the closet and the winter stuff in the closet to under the bed. Didn't make it to the gym today like I thought I would, so I'll probably squeeze in some lunges, squats, and cardio on the bike. But for now, I'm watching Sex and the City and finishing up my tomato, parmesan and bread slices.

I ain't got nobody. I got some money 'cause I just got paid.

Having a rum and coke, planning on going to bed soon, getting up real early tomorrow for a run, laundry, heading to work for a bit. And watching the Celtics beat the Cavs, maybe making it to the beach.

And hey, Sirius disorder just decided to play one of my favorite songs, "Thank You Lord" by Bob Marley.

Dude, Lori, get the beer.

Right now, looking like a freak with my wet hair and my lap top on my cat trolley behind my apartment building as the sun sets.
This whole day has gone all bitchcakes.

Get the beer.

That sounds like a productive night, TPS. Maybe some of that enthusiasm will rub off on me.

My sister just left. I begged her not to go. Since we're cruising down "Cracker Creek" in a pontoon boat tomorrow, she had to get home to make her sandwiches for our picnic we have planned, and to go to bed early. She is so practical.

I suggested to my husband that we should go to McDonalds and get a sundae and then to Blockbuster. He said, "I think I'm in for the night. But you and the kids should go."

*Cry*

Maybe I'll go read on my bed. I should be working on the job I'm doing for a friend and making my sandwiches for tomorrow, but I'm not practical.

on preview, mudpuppie you made me laugh out loud. I do sound sort of pathetic. :-)
posted by LoriFLA 17 May | 19:26
Nah, not pathetic. Just sounded like you wanted permission or encouragement. I give you both.

I'm going to Crowded House in about an hour (with Mefi's own jonson -- he's as big a fan as I am)! Yay yay yay -- I never saw them in their first incarnation in the '80s/'90s, so it's been great to get to see them three times in the past year.

Moved a new (free) couch in, moved the old (free) couch out. Brushed my teeth a few minutes ago, so I think the evening's over. (An evening of beer and movies sounds like fun). Time to jump in bed and read.

Samurai Jack is on Cartoon Network at 10:30, and I have a cabernet shiraz to go with it since I'm cutting back on beer. I got a lot done today, including some art, which seems to make alcohol taste better after.

Go for the beer. Nothing wrong with carbs. In fact, carbs (and B3, B6 and magnesium) are necessary for your metabolism to make proper use of protein, including turning tryptophan into seratonin, without which you end up clinically depressed. Seriously.
:-)

Aw, man, scody, that's great! Crowded House is supposed to be a totally fun show. Is Tim Finn still playing with his bro Neill in Crowded House, or are they feuding again? I'm a big Tim Finn fan. Ever listen to their original band Split Enz? The album Time and Tide is a total classic.

Have fun and please tell jonson I said Hello, if he remembers me from MeFi.

Man, I saw Crowded house years ago because Richard Thompson was opening for them. Forgot about that show. Would have been OK if the people I went with weren't such fanboys and girls.

Today is the first day of my vacation, and I've been goofing off. My plan is to head out to the plains tomorrow and take photos. I might try to get something accomplished with the wide angle 35mm pinhole camera I'm building using the film transport from an old camera. In the meantime I'm having a Gonzo Imperial Porter, and that will probably knock me on my ass.

Husband decided to go for a ride with us. We all loaded up in the truck, even Goldie Bear, got a caramel sundae, a Sean Penn movie (Into the Wild), Peter Pan, had a conversation about aliens, and bought a six pack. Woo! So much for saving calories.

I used to love Crowded House back in the day. I'm afraid I haven't followed them very well and know none of their new stuff.

Hey, I've seen Crowded House twice. Once when RT opened for them...I'd never heard of him, and my name is pretty similar, so for a minute, I kinda wigged out when they introduced him. For a split second, I seemed to be worried that I had to open the show.

The next time I saw them, Sheryl Crow opened. This was about 2 months before All I Wanna Do broke big. Man, did her band, and her arrangements suck. I went out to the lobby and got myself a drink while she continued.

I wish I had a little white wine but this oj will do. Laundry is finishing up...just got back from a quick trip to the store.

This time next week I will be in Colorado!

I've been working on my MefiSwap shiz all day (because I'm determined to mail them before I go vacationing) and now I'm going to finish packing for my vacation and just chill before watching the news with my pops and going to bed at a relatively decent hour because I have to work tommorow.

Bachelor night here. GF is working a catering gig tonight.

Went and watered the garden, sweated a lot, came home and removed sweaty clothes. Dinner is chana masala + raita + rice. It requires using the stove, dammit, but it's what I'm craving. Think I'm going to crank the AC and wait until dark to cook. Also watching baseball, plus other bad TV.

Cool shower later, and cold beer. 98 still. :(

Holy hell it's hot.
posted by mudpuppie 17 May | 20:54
I'm sore and bruised, but I got my garden started! My bed isn't quite the four by four set, but it's three by four. I've got the tomatoes and peppers planted, and I've got the seeds for the kids to plant tomorrow.

No rest for the wicked though. Hubby has the kids while I take the big stuff to the laundromat.

I have an evening full of disappointments -- my wife and I were supposed to go downtown to meet friends, old friends of hers I haven't met yet that are playing at one of the major clubs. But her thoughtful brother and his family decided to roll into town on 24 hours' notice, which meant her mom couldn't be babysitter, which means instead of having a nice meal and a couple of craft beers at Bosco's before going to meet some people that are important to my wife, I'm stuck at home eating refried bean burritos and drinking cheap red wine.

I cannot complain too hard, though, because my lovely wife often stays home so I can go play. Still, had my mouth all set for that beer.

I'm home alone tonight - fiance is off on a camping trip. Didn't sleep well last night so I'm probably going to bed soon (yes, at 9:30 on a Saturday). Then again I'll probably be on MeFi/Metachat for awhile. No drinking for me, though.

Adam has finally finished grad school, so we had our first "date night" tonight since finals hell kicked in.

Went to the Virgin store this afternoon, got the original "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle." Stopped in at the Strand; saw jonmc who totally didn't recognize me and was also busy again, thus causing me great embarrassment for interrupting his workday.

Had dinner at Asian fusion place, then came home and got down to business with Harold and Kumar. This movie never stops being awesome.

Now checking e-mails and being on MeCha. Need snacks.

Partner watched one of his movies tonight while I played the Sims and listened to 90s Athens pop music... we both had a good evening. (Alcohol is a given.) Now there's hot pizza on the dinner table, and I need to go get some. I dunno what'll happen after dinner.. more video games, another movie, hanging out online, going to bed early... it's out last real night of vacation so all bets are off. :)

(Oh yeah- we're watching first season episodes of WKRP In Cincinnati while we eat dinner.. they are as fucking hilarious as they were thirty years ago. Possibly more so, since I was kid the first time I saw them... brilliant.)

Worked until 9:00 ... Saturday night in retailville. Then talked 2000 miles with my sweetness on the phone for a couple hours. Just being nice and serene now.

I overslept and missed meeting friends at the met....I haven't seen their little girl in a long time and am very disappointed. Took in dry cleaning, spoke to contractor working upstairs and made it clear I would let him know when he could come in, went to gym, had sushi then odd German movie.

Boston tomorrow!

We ended up spending the rest of our evening watching The Mist. It was freakin' brilliant.

However, my partner (who hates horror movies) is not speaking to me at the moment.
posted by BoringPostcards 18 May | 01:22
Did I say he wasn't speaking to me? He's sitting on our porch yelling at me for getting him to watch this movie. Erm.

In my defense, the ending of the movie is a LOT harsher than the ending of story, because the story didn't really have an ending.

That said, the movie really is brilliant.

Hey, back from Crowded House! (Shane, sorry I didn't see your message till now, so I was unable to give jonson your regards -- I will the next time we chat, though. And no, Tim's not in this incarnation of the band, but I think he and Neil are cool these days -- I saw them on tour together a few years back. I've never seen Tim solo, but I'd love to!)

Great show, with a terrific set list of old and new stuff. And then my head just about exploded when they did Split Enz's "I Got You" (with Jon Brion on lead guitar), which is on my short list of favorite songs of all time. They closed with a grand version of "Better Be Home Soon." I had such a good time, I can't even complain about the heat.

Oh lordy. My Saturday night was much too full. I got up at 7.30 to drive to Pasadena to cater a friend's graduation party - Indian food for 50 people. Cooked all day, party in the evening, then left around 10 to go home...and decided at the very last minute to head to *another* party hosted by another group of friends. Where I caught up a bit with some old friends I hadn't seen in a really long time, met a few new cool people, successfully dodged the ex and other people I don't want to deal with, and (I think) got hit on my rather a large number of people. Admittedly there were at least a few known PUA-type people in the crowd but still my ego got a wee boost. Now my feet hurt like a mofo and I desperately need a shower.

Much busier than my usual Saturday, fairly fun, but I am totally exhausted right now.

BP, I heard The Mist was really good. My sister loved it. She said the same thing about the end.

It looks like we all had a pretty decent night. I think Scody has seen Crowded House several times. Or maybe, I'm thinking she has. CR must be Californians. I love live music. Don't have kids, or you'll be having McDonald's sundaes instead of concerts. ;-)

I had a first-birthday party to attend, and was pleasantly surprised when another long-time friend and his family showed up. We haven't seen them in nearly three years, so it was great to catch up. Ended up having an even better time than we thought we would, and stayed from one in the afternoon until seven pm. Great day.

I had a weird but sort of fun Saturday night. My friend from Boston was in town because she had some photos in the DUMBO photo fest. We went to the fest, saw a bunch of art, then sat through some of the WORST art films I've ever seen. The series was called "Photographers Make Movies" or something like that, but I think it should have been "Photographers should stick to Photography."

They were so so so so bad. During one especially uncomfortable film of gross hairy dirty cracked scabby feet touching all over each other, I did something I've never done and starting texting people to distract myself.
That was pretty rude, but maybe not as rude as the 2/3 of the audience who just walked out in a steady stream.

After the bad movies, we ate great Thai food and then went back to my apt for gossip and bed.
