Darjeeling Limited. [poss. spoilers] We watched it today. I hated it, and I'm so glad we didn't spend the $ to see it in the theatres. I did think Owen Wilson did a good job, however.

WHat'd you guys think?
I didn't think it was horrible, but Wes Anderson went just a little too far in his preciousness in this film. We never believed that the three of them were really brothers, and that made it a little tougher to swallow. We were just talking about Wes Anderson last night, listening to the Rushmore soundtrack. Still his best work, as far as I am concerned.

I haven't seen it. I was annoyed that the audience was to believe that the three of them were supposed to be brothers. It looked dumb to me. I judged it by the previews only.

I really wanted to like it. But, sadly, I could not. I liked the performances fine, I just...I don't know for sure. I didn't care about the characters at all.

I liked it. But obviously not the best of WA.

That was a movie about luggage - not of relationships.

Wes Anderson is a fine director who needs to get back to telling stories instead of showcasing set design and soundtracks.

However, that movie introduced me to the music of Peter Sarstedt, who is absolutely the best.

I've never appreciated Anderson's films the way everyone else seems to, although the Zisu one was bearable for me.

i liked it. i'd definitely take it over a lot of other movies. i liked the train conductor and that it was all shot on an actual train. Knowing a lot of people didn't like it killed any hype, which always helps.
*sigh*
Back to beating the bushes.

Saw it in the theatre, and agreed with LT - visually wonderful, awesome luggage and so on - but painfully thin plot and character development. Really disappointing. The Anderson mood was there, but any emotional truth was missing from the story.

I added a "spoiler" thingy to the heading, so that comments that show up on the "recent comments" page will be blacked out - just in case!

I loved Rushmore, Royal Tennenbaums, and Zissou, but the previews to this one just looked tedious. So I never saw it, and so far nothing has made me want to go back and see it.

Haven't seen it as I was unimpressed by a couple of his other films and there was such a love/hate reaction from people. The artwork was gorgeous, though.

On the subject of loved/hated films, I saw The Departed yesterday and thought it was great.

I liked it. I find that a lot of my friends that didn't don't have siblings.

The Departed finally convinced me that Leo can act, but the end ruined it, excepting the rat. It does make me want to see the original.

I feel like Wes Anderson has one story to tell and he tells it over and over and puts Owen Wilson in it somewhere. I happen to like that story okay so I like his movies, but yeah, not an OMG flick.

I think it would have been more interesting and meaty if the encounter with the kids had been explored more in depth. Also I agree that shooting it on the actual train was awesome. I'm glad it wasn't just me missing some painfully obvious piece of it.

I just ran into it half way through, and haven't seen Rushmore and had never heard of Darjeeling Limited. So, with that in mind... I liked what I saw of it. It didn't try to be deep (that I noticed)... it was more like a travel journal that has some digital camera snaps and some jottings down. A few images, some great colors, a few impressions, a few mental adjustments... and then back home, both a little older and a little younger for having gone.

If I'd been expecting something profound I probably wouldn't have liked it, but taken as I saw it, I thought it was pretty good.

When I watched Infernal Affairs I figured I was having a hard time telling Andy Lau & Tony Leung apart in some scenes because I was white and maybe not good at differentiating Asians (though this hasn't been a problem for me in real life) but then I couldn't tell Matt Damon from Leonard DeCaprio either, in certain scenes. Turns out those Anglos... they all look the same. Has living here lost me all ability to detect things more subtle than ethnicity, hair style, and piercing? (Katy? Asian with blue dreads? Lesbian? That Katy?)

I liked The Departed but I like Infernal Affairs's ending better. And the shrink in both of them was beyond annoying.
