Soundtrack for Driving to my 15th High School Reunion [More:]Potential for disaster aside, I've agreed to go to my 15th high school reunion in CT. This will mean about 3 hours of driving each way, so I am going to need an inspiring and appropriate road trip mix. Any suggestions?

It's difficult to know what would be "inspiring and appropriate" without some details. And at any rate I doubt I would be of much help, considering that next year is my 30th. (Ay-yi-yi!)

Be that as it may, the new Nick Cave album is pretty good, as is the new one by Earth.

Sorry, I tried to make the question as brief as possible. What I meant by "appropriate and inspiring" should be perhaps better translated into "not depressing" (which eliminates a lot of music I listened to in high school)and "energizing" (to keep me going for 3 hours of fabulous driving).

I graduated in 1993 from a high school in Windsor, CT. At the time of my graduation, my musical taste wasn't very complicated as there wasn't much variety in terms of radio stations in that are of CT (basically top 40, oldies, and classic rock). Now, I listen to an eclectic range of music from big band to french pop. While I want to have a few songs that were popular while I went to high school, I'm open to suggestions.

I'm not sure if any of that helps, but Nick Cave was a good suggestion. I loved him even when I was in high school.

My suggestion: don't go. The past is the past. If you really wanted to be in touch with any of those people you already would be.

I actually am in touch with some of my high school friends, which is one of the reasons why I am going. While I've kept in touch, I haven't actually seen these people in years. That's just one of several reasons why I am going.

But thanks for your concern and advice. I know this has the potential to be an unpleasant experience, but if gets too depressing, I'll just make an excuse and drive off.

I would bring: The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Cars, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Donna Summer, a myriad of Motown, Chuck Berry, Sam Cooke, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Idol, ELO, etc.

"Holiday Road" by Lindsey Buckingham is always a good road trip song. You gotta have Cruisin' by Smokey Robinson.

Here's a samplin' of what I would bring:

Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks

Since You're Gone - The Cars

Don't Do Me Like That - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
