When she begins to rock, honey, I begin to roll. Social Distortion's Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell is one of the best housecleaning albums evah. I've been dragging my ass all day, but put that on and I'm a cleaning machine. What's your favourite chore music?
Years ago I relied on 70's punk to motivate me to clean - namely the Ramones, Stiff Little Fingers, and the Clash. But in recent years I've noticed that I've gravitated towards poppy 60's stuff like the Equals, Hollies, and early BeeGees to get my cleaning mo going.

Mrs Slack prefers to listen to comedy albums rather than music when she cleans.

I usually play whatever mix I'm working on at the time. If I'm not in the midst of putting one together, I'll play one of my old mixes.

Doesn't really matter what it is, as long as it's LOUD.

I normally listen to whatever is in the stereo...it normally has a couple comedy cds + 3 music cds.

Right now it's got Tommy Tiernan, Patton Oswalt, a couple mix cds, and PJ Harvey Rid of Me in it.

I hear ya. That's one distinct advantage of living in a shack in the woods--I can turn it up to ear-bleeding and ain't no-one to complain.

Oooh, Rid of Me--I think that'll be my next selection. (I thought my first guest was coming tonight, so I had a coffee at 5 instead of the nap I so deeply craved. Then he called to say he'd be here tomorrow. Now I am awake, and all the vodka in the world isn't going to change that.)

Yeah, that's what I like about living on a big piece of land, too. I think there was some sort of cleaning frenzy going on around us on Sunday morning because, on going outside, I could hear the Rolling Stones coming from down the street, Albanian Folk Music coming from the place at the end of the cul-de-sac, country music blasting from across the road and Pink Floyd coming from our place. The only thing better than living on a big block of land is living on a big block of land with neighbours who listen to music as loud as I do.

The Toy Dolls. Totally mad, upbeat, ridiculous punk rock.
Listen to Olga, (one of the best guitarists ever) singing about Pot Belly Bill, Idle Gossip, Geordie (who's Gone To Jail), and an instrumental bit with him 'n' John Williams*. Fast, punchy, tight, happy and football choruses about silly things. More than enough to get you moving.

*this chap.

Lately, this album has been doing for me.

For household cleaning chores, nothing tops White Zombie's Astro-Creep 2000.

It is pretty damned good for that, quonsar. That's one of those albums that I forget I own, then come across when I'm in just the right mood for it, then it gets super-heavy rotation for a couple of weeks, then lather, rinse, repeat. (Ministry's Psalm 69 is another one.)

Someone left a Gogol Bordello cd here and still hasn't claimed it. I'd never heard it before, but it, too, is great clean-the-house music. (Or jump up and down like a mad thing on your newly cleaned floor music.) Kind of what it would sound like if the Dead Kennedys were gypsies.

Embarrassing, but I really like listening to the Butthole Surfers while I put away laundry.

Master of Puppets, Minor Threat's Complete Discography, and Dillinger Escape Plan's Calculating Infinity. The last is for reward/punishment purposes only -- "when I finish this task, I can turn this damn screaming off".

What's a chore?

Guns N' Roses, Appetite for Destruction

Or anything that is upbeat and fast.

Maybe one of my favorite songs from my adolescence. My mom would say, "You girls! That is not a nice song!"
