***The Barber Surgeon: leeches, lancets and bloodletting***
Saturday 31 May, at 12 noon and 2pm
Family friendly event
FREE, booking essential
A chance to see a performance by the Barber Surgeon, back by popular demand for one day only!
Come and meet Rory McCreadie, a Barber Surgeon who would have worked in the 16th and 17th centuries. Find out about the operations he performed at a time when hygiene was poor and pain relief unheard of. Rory will explain how trephining (drilling a hole in your skull) was used to release evil spirits and show you the instruments used for the most dangerous operation performed at the time. Rory will also demonstrate blood letting, giving you all a chance to meet Nosey the Leech!
Suitable for all ages, audience participation encouraged by children and grown-ups! Free to all, but booking in advance is essential. To book call the Hunterian Museum on 020 7869 6560 or email museums@rcseng.ac.uk with your full contact details and how many tickets you require.
