Unreasonable dislikes filter. Know what I hate? [More:]I have the google toolbar search box thingy installed, and it's very handy, but I hate the way it leaves my search term in there after the google web page comes up, and the search term is still there after I've found whatever page I need. I'm constantly clearing out that stupid box, because it bugs me. Grrrrrrrrrr
That is annoying, now that I think about it. Though I suppose if it snapped back to blank, I might find a reason to get annoyed about that as well. What really kills me is when I change the search engine in the Firefox search box and later when I try to google something else, that other search engine is still selected. I wish it would snap back to the default Google.

Olives.

Yeah, olives! If they're not in liquidy oil form they're no damn good, I say.

Now see, I like the way it sticks with your selected search engine. I can set it to imdb or something, and then if I highlight text in an article, it searches with the search engine I've chosen up there. Good for specific kinds of research. The way your search term sits in the window bugs me, too, though.

I have an Amazon search box that does that too, and it bugs me.

Mangoes. They smell putrid. Papaw smell putrid too, but I like those.

Having three computers upon which I've installed, and use firefox regularly. My desktop at work, my laptop from work, and my desktop at home.

They all appear to have the same plugins, but...in some I can type "wp furries" into the address bar and it automatically searches the wiki for furries. On others, that doesn't work. I'm a smart guy usually, but for some reason, I've never been willing to devote an iota of time to sorting out WHY THIS IS.

In fact, the typing that I've done to describe the issue here is more effort than I've put in.

richat - you have a smart keyword on one of your browsers. Check your bookmarks for a directory called keywords or something similar, you'll find it. I'm not sure what I dislike this morning, it's almost too early for me to have likes or dislikes.

I use Mailwasher to check my mail and it has a habit of minimising itself to the status bar rather than staying in the taskbar. And I'm kind of OCD-ish in that I like to have all my taskbar things in the same order - Mailwasher, Thunderbird, Firefox and then anything else. If Mailwasher disappeared to the status bar, it'd be in the wrong place when I re-opened it.

Then I found a fantastic, absolutely utterly wonderful little utility that allows me to drag and drop things along the taskbar so they're in the order I want. It's probably more than a little embarrassing and pathetic to explain how happy I was to find this.

I hate when the news media uses the word "co-ed" to describe a female student. It's like they're still surprised that females are attending college, even though we're 60+% of the typical graduating class?

This is why I never use the google box to search for things. Instead, I set a keyword in Firefox that "g [foo]" in the location bar does a search for [foo]. I can get to the location bar with either ctrl-l or F6, so moving the mouse to click on a box that doesn't remove my search term when I'm done is much more work than typing g-space. Plus, the location bar is reinforced because that's also where I go when I want to search for "wiki [foo]" "dic [foo]" "imdb [foo]" etc.

Actually, I'd kind of like to remove the google bar from Firefox. Can I do that? about:config or something?

(To make a keyword in Firefox, just go to a site where you might perform a search. Right click on the box where you normally type the search text and click "Add a Keyword for this Search...")

I hate when people pull out of a parking lot onto a two-lane street, and instead of staying in the outside lane they pull directly into the inside lane furthest from where they started but directly in front of me. When there's no one else in the other lane.

goo, mangoes creep me out, too. I've tried several times to like them, but they just smell icky and taste worse.

I have a deep and irrational loathing of people who krinkle chips bags and/or root loudly through their purse/pack/belongings in quiet settings like the movie theatre, library or lecture hall.

You don't even need about:config to get rid of the bar, Eide--just right-click on it, select 'Customize' and then drag it away.

I refuse to call that "irrational"!

Seconding occhiblu; I've popped in to this thread twice planning to spout off about my irrational or unreasonable dislikes*, but on reflection all the things that rile my fury seem (of course!) thoroughly rational and reasonable. Thoroughly!

*What springs to mind: those overeager morons who block the entrance to the bus (or to the elevator or to the subway car) and whose heads I will reduce to a fine spray of pulpy redness with my merest glance when the universe finally invests me with my richly deserved powers. Have they never ridden a bus/subway/elevator before? Do they not know that other riders must disembark first? Die, doorjammers, die!

So, uh, like I said: thoroughly reasonable and rational.

I hate it when people just come to a dead stop in the middle of moving traffic. (Car or pedestrian, doesn't matter.) If you have to look at your map or whatever, scootch to the side, motherfucker!

Mushrooms. I hate the very sight of them, in all their disgusting varieties. .. for example, the aptly named "shiitake". A mushroom on the plate spoils everything on it. Pick them off a pizza? NO WAY. I don't even want that pizza in my house. I will not eat one, no way. And don't think you can sneak one in and then say, "see, that wasn't so bad". I have fungi radar. Just .. yuk.

I have an irrational dislike of ringtones that are in the form of a song.

Bling

Logos. This one doesn't make me think of Dooney & Bourke. It makes me think of Daytona Beach.

People eating apples. The sound of human teeth slowly-but-insistently chomping through firm-but-spongy matter just bugs me to no end.

I don't know why/how, but apples are somehow mini amplifiers. You just can't tune out the sound of someone eating an apple. When a coworker bites into an apple, I sometimes have to leave the area -- it bugs me that much.

I've hated cherries since I tried to teach my brother how to eat them without swallowing the pits but kept doing it myself.

That reminds me... I just don't like fresh strawberries as much as I think I should. In fact, I don't like fruit as much as I should... I think I have over-active sour receptors. I like pears and melon, apples if they aren't at all mushy... but most fruit makes me wince a bit when I eat it. I like pretty much all fruit in cooked things, but a lot of the fresh is too puckery.

That one is completely acceptable, eid. :-) I'm thinking more on the lines of "My Humps" as a ringtone. "Brown-Eyed Girl" would have to be the worst.
