MeCha Radio: All kinds of music, but not the weird stuff. Starts at 8:30, for 2 hours. You'll probably hear something you like...[More:] 80's, goth, shouty, alt.rock, that kind of thing.
Ok, bastard Winamp just crashed on me and decided to chuck my playlist down the toilet. Rebuilding now, will be 'casting in about 10 min.
posted by Zack_Replica 09 May | 22:30
Here we go. Shouty stuff first, as it's been a poopy week.
JFJ rules ok.
posted by Zack_Replica 09 May | 22:41
okay, I'm glistening.
posted by wendell 09 May | 22:45
Glistening? What, you oil yourself up to listen to the radio? No. Wait. I don't wanna know.

(No goth - wouldn't work with the mix.)
posted by Zack_Replica 09 May | 22:50
I'm just a Happy Shiny Person (and no, you don't have to play that).

Fortunately I don't actually have that song as I think it's the worst of two good bands. Ok, bands whose early stuff was really good.
posted by Zack_Replica 09 May | 23:02
Playlist 2...

9. Boomtown Rats - Nice 'N' Neat (2:51)

I have been participating in the "When Obama wins..." meme on Twitter, and I just posted: "When Obama wins, Istanbul will change its name back to Constantinople."
posted by wendell 09 May | 23:57
I love that song. I'm sad I can't listen now (husband sleeping, me hates earphones) because the set looks wonderful.

Wendell, in Greece, they still call it Constantinople mostly. Heh.
posted by taz 10 May | 00:32
Liking this.
posted by arse_hat 10 May | 00:37
I was thinking of making a comment on Obama/Clinton/whomever American politics, but I'm in Canada and it's a sticky issue. Most of my politics are derived from listening to smart anarcho-punk stuff and my inherent distrust of "public opinion". (Read: sheep.) And toes'd be stepped on and hackles would be raised. There's enough of that in the world. :)

oh. last song, so the final playlist update.....
27. Midnight Oil - US Forces (4:08)
28. Pogues - The Sick Bed of Cuchulainn (2:58)
29. Billy Bragg - The World Turned Upside Down (2:33)

35. Renegade Soundwave - Lucky Luke (3:52)
36. Kirsty MacColl - A New England (3:56) She sang on the Pogues' Fairytale of New York. She died in a boating accident. Since then Billy Bragg does her version of this song. She was never as famous as she should've been.
37. Sneaker Pimps - Tesko Suicide (3:48)
38. The Clash - Justice Tonight / Kick It Over (8:54)

having said that, if anyone wanted more music, i'm good for at least another hour and could play more. if so, suggestions?
posted by Zack_Replica 10 May | 00:41

Gary Numan, Haircut 100, Nick Kershaw, Thomas Dolby, Offspring etc..
posted by arse_hat 10 May | 00:54
Did you stop, or did you get an error? Husband woke up, so I tuned in, but got an error message from Loudcity.
posted by taz 10 May | 00:59
I stopped, but according to a_h, i should go on more.

Making playlist... (no Nik Kershaw)... gimme 5 min.

Real Tuesday Weld?

Coming up...
posted by Zack_Replica 10 May | 01:26
An excellent collection of 80-ness... but be careful, you are getting close to Rick Astley territory...
posted by wendell 10 May | 01:29
ooh. So I shouldn't've chosen Forever Young?
posted by Zack_Replica 10 May | 01:30
Haircut 100, A Flock Of Seagulls, and Dead milkmen all started off fun but the more they learned about music the more they sucked. I hate that.

The Alphaville is fine.

Is he not men? He is Howard Devoto! Haven't heard that in yeeeeers... I thought the last copy of that got thrown out at KROQ in '92...
posted by wendell 10 May | 01:34
Also, KUDOS for what you said about Kirsty MacColl. She was an unrecognized pop genius.
posted by BoringPostcards 10 May | 01:35
The Bees and i were playing Superman, in which i have my arms out like Superman, and she rides on my back, which turned into Titanic, when she starts to claw me while getting to the highest point she can reach, posturing like she's "King of the World". It'll ends in tears, so i made her jump off, but now she gets to listen to the radio and sulk.
posted by ethylene 10 May | 01:36
*tisk* late to the party.

I'm only good for about another 1/2 hour anyways.

wendell: ah, but the Usenet remembers all...
posted by Zack_Replica 10 May | 01:36
She's not much for sulking anyway.
posted by ethylene 10 May | 01:38
woowoo, love 'em Real Tuesday Weld. :)
posted by taz 10 May | 01:38
I [heart] The Real Tuesday Weld. This song also sounds like a twisted Leonard Cohen song, which is a good thing.
posted by BoringPostcards 10 May | 01:39
Stephen Coates always reminds me of Matt Johnson.
posted by arse_hat 10 May | 01:40
Kirsty MacColl - I always liked what Morrissey said about her, "an amazing voice and a cracking bust - why isn't this woman a star??"

Stephen Coates/Real Tuseday Weld - man's an artist, it's true.
posted by Zack_Replica 10 May | 01:42
It was either Morrissey or Marr who said her version of "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet Baby" was the definitive version, and I'd have to agree with them.
posted by BoringPostcards 10 May | 01:45
...and hi to ethylene!

also - Matt Johnson is so underrated. If you ever get a chance to see the whole film for "Infected" do so.
posted by Zack_Replica 10 May | 01:46
"Infected" was amazing! I had the whole tape but it is long lost.
posted by arse_hat 10 May | 01:47

Aha! One of my favorite old R.E.M. songs. (I don't have many favorite new R.E.M. songs, Accelerate excepted.) I used to play this all the time on my college radio station, er, when it was new. *sigh*

I hope we have a stopover in Atlanta whenever we go to the U.S. Making BP go to the airport is fun, and something everyone should participate in as much as possible.

LOVE the Men at Work!!
