Four inexplicably interesting photographs of Hillary Clinton (from Wonkette)[More:]

I'm not interested in Wonkette's commentary, nor in the rest of the Wonkette comment thread. But I haven't found these photographs hosted anywhere else.

After staring at them I'm convinced I will never have a good idea of the circumstances under which they were shot--sure, they give me lots of clues, but somehow all those clues are still not enough. How did these images come to be? Why have we never seen images like them before, and why are we seeing them now? (These photos were taken on Sunday.)

It might be that I find them interesting because even though her facial expressions in the first two are clearly artificial, these are also the most, well, genuine photos of Clinton I can recall seeing, and they don't seem (all that) calculated. (She actually seems like she's spontaneously striking those poses--you get the feeling that when cameras aren't around she does this kind of thing all the time.) Is it just because of the hooded yellow sweatshirt, with its sleeves that are a bit too long? Or is it because the people surrounding her give her a context that she wouldn't have if she were alone in the images?
What's a "genuine" photo? Is there any other kind?

Weird. In that second shot, it looks like she's channeling Lillian Gish:

and in the last shot, she's a dead ringer for Charlie Chaplin:

My poor state.
Yellow was probably the only color she could find that didn't correspond to school colors.

Is there any other kind?

I'd guess that a photo that was planned, staged, etc would meet that description. A photo that captures the personality/essence of its subject also comes to mind.

From the comments:
Hillary can't go to Rhode Island's lovely seashores because -- despite the fact that it is the Ocean State -- Rhode Island is not on the ocean and therefore doesn't have any seashores.

What the....

Yeah, I didn't get the Wonkette commentary/comments at.all. I guess I'm not really their demographic?

A photo is a picture. All the stuff about personality, essence, blah blah blah, is subjective.

...so? I'm confused as to why you're making a point that no one would dispute. Are you suggesting that these photos of Hillary Clinton have the same properties as all other photographs of Hillary Clinton, and no properties that are exclusive to these photos? Few people would agree with you there, I'd wager (though, as you say, it is subjective).

If the word "genuine" is the sticking point for you, replace it with "candid," or some other such synonym.

Great photos. She always makes me smile, even in the posed smiling photos. She's got a great face.

Russert's actually asking some tough, although almost entirely hypothetical questions. Good for him.

Yeah, Russert is out for blood this evening.

Farrakhan question, damn.

Both reject and denounce. And did the talking head say 'renounce'?

Obama handled that as well as he could (and he shut down Clinton's attempt to score a point off of him), but that isn't going to go away.

What Prospero said (re: TPS). I'm really not sure what you're trying to say here.
