Can you help me find a comment? There was a cool comment months ago on why operating online was so nice for people with autism/Aspergers. [More:]I don't remember more than that. I don't even remember if it was on Metafilter or on AskMe. It might have been sidebarred but it was long ago.

Does anyone remember what or where it was?
"Operating online was so much EASIER" is probably a better description.

It's funny, because before I got digital hearing aids, I found it a lot easier to relate to people online than in RL, because I was not always asking people to repeat what they said. I think that the internet is a boon for all sort of other-abled folks.

Of course, . . . .

Maybe it was one of the comments in the MetaFilter post about a woman with autism and how she expressed herself and interacted with the world. It was a link to a youtube about her, I think. She showed up and registered and commented several times in the thread.

This thread?

ooh- that might have been it. It was a guy's comment I remember, but that might have been the thread. Thanks!

If you find it, email it me because I've been looking in vain for something similar.
Anyway - it could be this article from Wired you're looking for :
Second life teaches life.

Here's what I was thinking of, although I haven't read all the comments.

On preview, yeah, that thread.

Also, grumblebee and doohickie have both commented many times about autism and or aspergers so you could always check their comments via the new handy dandy profile search at Metafilter.

nope. rats. maybe I dreamed it. I just remember him saying that it was easy to be seen as normal online because you could leap right in to the data part of your conversation online, but you're not allowed in meatspace. I don't think he used the term meatspace.

gah- I did just take the aspie quiz though and came out 42 out of 50. That can't be right. I think I'll retake it. would explain a lot, though...

Might be informative to post that link, s_r. I would not mind doing the quiz.

Crap! It came out worse the second time. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the questions? hello?

Quiz.

I hate tests that rephrase the same question a zillion times.

Maybe that's indicative of something.

25. I think earlier in my life, I would have scored a little higher.

Gah! "35: most people with Asperger's or high-functioning autism score around 35". That's useless! What you want to know is how many people who score around 35 have autism.

I got 17.

Am I the only one who still chuckles when autism research (like this test) references Ali G's brother?

No?

I got 17.

17 as well. I'm non-autism buddies with matthewr. Woo!

Oh, and mosessis! We'll start a Club 17. Woo!

Sweet 16 here.

Where is my 16 family? When are we going to get together for social chitchat, and reading between the lines? Could we BE more polite? Hey, let's understand each other!

guys?

14. The thing that's interesting to me is that I had no idea which of the things I was answering would lead to scoring any differently.

Where is my 16 family?

We'll expand Club 17! We'll be Club 12-18! Club Teen! Who needs to focus on precise data and numbers?!? We'll be all "shades of gray" and "amorphous boundaries" and "loose categorization" about it. :-)
