Basketball anyone? I haven't played basketball since middle school, and I was terrible. I just joined a women's basketball group, where several people are newbies like me. Where can I go online to learn some rules, and what can I do to not look like a total dink? Thanks! I'm athletic, just...basketball...I am so short.
I am so short.

Didn't stop Spud Webb. Go for it!

Well, here are the basics that made me serviceable; you may already be well beyond this...

Shooting: Aim for the center of the hoop, not the hoop itself. Remember that the momentum of your body transfers to the ball when you release (ie. you don't have to push the ball up as much when you're jumping, you don't have to push the ball against the backboard when you are running towards it), which can work for or against you depending on what you're trying to do. Square your shoulders to the basket.

Dribbling: Dribble with your finger-tips, not your fingers or palms. (Actually, shooting is similar. You have more control over the ball with your fingertips than the rest of your hand.)

Being Short: The advantage of being short is that you have better reach of the dribbled ball when trying to steal against someone taller -- learn the pace which people dribble at and you might become a tenacious defender.

Free Throws: You must have a wacky, concentration/stabilization method for shooting free throws. This above all things is the key to playing basketball.

Watching some of those And 1 videos couldn't hurt.

Also: watch the whole court, especially on breaks and when playing zone defense. And watch people's eyes to see where they're headed next.

Practice dribbling a lot. I'm short and was always picked first for basketball since like pokermonk said, I could steal the ball. They used to say that nobody could see me coming - hehe. :) Anyway, I would have been useless if I hadn't practiced dribbling and stealing my brothers ball for many years.

I volunteer my shoulders for maximal dunkage. I get 30% of all endorsement deals (gross, not net) if we go pro, plus complete health insurance and daily full-body massages by comely lasses of virtue true.
