How are you spending your Saturday?→[More:]I am going to the Provo library used book sale. I'm excited--I have scored so many cheap books there. I pay ten bucks a year just to get in the first wave of buyers.
We have some friends who have bought a yet-to-be-built house about an hour outside the city. So we're going there with them, and we're watching their toddler while they go to the "Design Center" to pick house stuff. Then, we're all going to lunch and to Wal-Mart and/or Costco. I love suburban life!!!
Relaxing; reading; researching; got hair cut; posting Moo cards to thank people who have sponsored me for the London marathon; roasting tomatoes, peppers, garlic for soup next week; starting work on my Open University course; later: HAWT DATE. Oh, and wondering if I can afford to treat myself to a new Wii game.
Meeting up with my folks in Half Moon Bay (where we lived when I was high school). Tomorrow we're all going over to my friend's house for BBQ. I've known him since high school and I usually spend Sunday mornings with him and his two girls.
My mother just called to ask a favor. She had surgery 10 days ago and is not allowed to lift anything over 10 pounds. The provisions I stocked up are running low, so she asked me to accompany her to the grocery store to push the cart and carry the bags.
I told her how absolutely delighted I am that she asked, since I feared she'd try to do things like this too soon.
We're meeting this afternoon for that. Then we're having dinner together.
Before, I'll putter: tidy up, do laundry, wash dishes, start some bread dough.
The Fella is hoping his brother and future SIL (both thoroughly delightful), who are doing a family thing an hour north, might be persuaded to come over late tonight, then to have a leisurely breakfast with us Sunday, so I want to give the place a lick and a promise, and to whip up a quiche and some sweet rolls.
Ah, well that depends. If other half is 7000 miles away at the present and said date relies on Skype, then things are possible. This, obviously, might not be your definition of hawt, but when said other half is who she is, then it is, by definition, hawt. So there!
Totally exhausted by errands, but errands were successful! One errand was get a haircut, I am cool like TheDonF. Now: Laundry. Read paper. Nap. Yummy, yummy nap.
Well I just got back from the bicycle shop where they straightened my wheel and exchanged my helmet (yeah, the old one was cracked from me going over the handlebars Thursday). And I'm about to turn on the Buffalo Sabres/New York Rangers hockey game. After that, I guess, it's time to clean house...
I am sick today, sore throat, fever, upset stomach. I just woke up from a nap to find my team winning 2-0 in the football.
I plan on taking it easy tomorrow as I suspect I'm coming down with something. On Monday night I'm going to see Steve Earle in concert after work so I want to make sure I'm fit for it.
The football is on TV right now. We are the boss of Arsenal!
I'm taking a few hours off after two weeks of trial trial trial in San Jose. A tree guy is outside my window cutting a tree -- chain saw about eight feet away. Aw, the glamour of city life! I'm watching a few shows I tivoed and I'm drinking coffee. In a few hours I have to read the other side's ridiculous Rule 50 motion and start writing our response.
Taking a friend to McMinnville, which is about 40 minutes south of where we are in Portland. I am charging him one beer somewhere in that town for the favor, and then I'm going to come back and make dinner for some friends.
It's a really pretty day outside today so I am going to also find some time to take some pictures on the way.
I had a decent haul at the book sale. A bunch of class Superman and Green Arrow comics (bound, re-issue), a big pile of National Geographic for Kids (free), Kurosawa's Ikiru for 50 cents, and 1776, for a buck, and my wife goes to Boston next month. Then I picked up my son from overnight Space Camp, which looked really impressive. Very Star Trek.
I'm doing laundry and eating a sandwich, then running a series of errands that may include but is not limited to: stop by a couple coworkers' offices to have off-the-record conversations about potential new hires; visit the used-record store; drop off a bag of old clothes at the ARC donation place; stop at the tattoo place to talk with my artist for a minute; try to chase down R at the co-op, or perhaps at C or E's houses; buy some ingredients for some kind of snack at A's house. Then, later tonight, I'm going to A's house, where we'll have a few beers and play around with Cubase.
My six-weeks-overdue paycheck arrived today, so my first stop is the ATM. Then the farmers' market for veggie shopping. Gf and I both have a lot of work to do, so we're going to hang out at the market and do our respective work until the library opens at 12. Then, she goes to the library and I work in the park some more. Next, grocery shopping with newly deposited funds. (Yay! Fresh cat litter!) After shopping, clean cat box. At some point this weekend, though maybe not today, we'll receive the figurative keys to the new community garden plot. We made a deal with the coordinator that we'd clean and weed it ourselves if she'd give it to us this weekend. Otherwise, it was going to be a couple more weeks. I've been nursing a sore lower back, though, so I'm a little worried that the plot we get is going to be completely covered in weeds. That would suck.
Today I went to a kid basketball game and then we went to Gamble Place. I've lived here my entire life and I've never been to Gamble Place! It was nice. I will return!
We are in Baltimore for the long weekend, staying at SIL's place. Today we slept late and then walked to a BBQ place in South Baltimore, through Otterbein and Federal Hill, the neighbourhood that I lived in when I first moved to the US. After a great lunch, we wandered back to SIL's (again through the neighbourhoods and past Camden Yards) and are now doing a bit of work and watching the FSU-Maryland game.
It's the anniversary of mine and mr. gaspode's first date (aww....) so tonight we are going to the sushi restaurant we went to then.
Happy anniversary! My boyfriend and I are celebrating our one year anniversary today, too. Unfortunately, he's working on his MA thesis today as well, so I'm just waiting around for him to finish. Then it's wine and yummy cheese on the patio. I'm off work all next week to study for the bar exam, which is the following Tuesday and Wednesday, so tomorrow the final push begins.
I've just biked around L.A. to run some errands, and now it's off to the peak of Runyon Canyon with my shortwave to do some logging. This evening, it's groceries followed by dusting/vacuuming and some Web site updates. (For someone who lives in the self-declared entertainment capitol of the world, I sure do like being in my apartment.)
Yesterday we got zoo supplies so we wouldn't have to brave the madness at PetSmart today. Today I vacuumed, cleaned the litter boxes, did laundry, cleaned bathrooms and set up a drawing file I have to finish tomorrow. Oh, I also walked our black pooch, Bungee, and swung kettlebells. I'm kinda pooped!
I reconnected with a dear friend and worked on my sound piece at the same time. I strapped a recorder to her dog's collar and took him for a walk through Kensington market, trying to catch as many languages as I could. It was fun. Hopefully it will transfer okay. Then we hung out at her place catching up. It's been too long. Really satisfying Saturday.
I spent it working. The store was busy as hell today, and one of the managers has decided that we need 'greeters,' at the front of the store. What are we, fucking Wal-Mart? This is New York, if you wnat a greeter, just hire somebody to satand there and say 'What the fuck do you want?' to every person that comes in.
Late lunch, grocery run, a few home repairs (one involving weather-stripping, which felt ludicrous since it was 70 degrees F and we were wearing shorts), cat to the vet for a claw-trimming and weight check, laundry, and now, beer, pizza (soon) and music. A pretty damn fine Saturday, overall, I have to say.
I took a lovely three hour nap this afternoon (a great start to my week off). Now I'm sipping cocoa with peppermint schnapps, watching Cops, and waiting for our chicken to finish roasting. Smells yummy...
Oh ick, no! I HATE being pounced on as soon as I walk into a store.
Sleep.
