3-point update! [More:]

1) Yes, yes indeed, I AM wearing pink! Shut up, it was $4.37 at Target! FOUR DOLLARS! well, okay, five dollars with tax, but still...FIVE DOLLARS!!!

2) I have an interview later today for a job that I will likely not get, because a) it's a huge stretch for my current competencies, and b) there's a much better fit for my skills in the same dept. that will be posted in ~2 weeks, but still... INTERVIEW! YAY!!

3) It snowed/is snowing last night / this morning, and it's the most perfect. Valentine's. snow. EVAR!! I love Colorado for many reasons, one of which is that we get such excellent snow conditions. It's snowing those big, soft, perfectly-formed hexagonal feathery flakes of pure awesomeness, and later today I bet the sun comes out and turns everything into diamonds and rainbows and glitter. Amazing how a process as banal as water condensing into ice forms such intricate and gorgeous patterns. I actually just stood and watched these Snowflakes Of Excellence fall onto someone's freshly-cleaned windshield for like, ten minutes or so this morning. YAY!! WEATHER!! SCIENCE!!!
1. It is a nice day in NYC, thank goodness. Last V-Day was horried.
2. White Castle tonight! Too bad my stomach really hurts. I am never going to "Wok to Walk" again- I was up in the middle of the night!
3. Yay bunny valentines!

1. I made great progress at work last week, but this week I've been plagued by technical problems and poor planning on someone else's part, so I feel like I've been treading water for the last three days. Which means I'll be in here on Saturday again. Ugh.

2. It's WAY TOO FREAKIN' COLD OUT. I want my 68-degree February days back, dammit. (High of 62 predicted tomorrow... I'll take it.)

3. I've got to get my brother a birthday card and get it in the mail TODAY, or it'll never get to him before his b-day.

1. Yaaaaay bunny love Valentines! I'm so glad you guys haven't forgotten about me, even though I haven't been around hardly at all! Whuffles!

2. Working working working!

3. I think I smelled spring in the air today and I saw a little patch of blue sky and that makes me deliriously happy!

4. I have lacy red panties on!

1. With BP above, have to get my nephew a b'day present TODAY! Or else. He has too many game consoles, and I'm trying to think outside *games* as the only present for him (I got him a horseride through the rainforest for xmas).

2. On holidays! On annual leave from tomorrow for the next week, chilling and doing stuff at home (YAY!)

3. Boyfriend purchased a very expensive 'makeover experience' for me for Val's Day, consisting of a personal shopper/stylist COMING TO MY HOME AND GOING THROUGH MY WARDROBE then going shopping and a haircut. I am very grateful, but I don't know if I should be offended or not!

1. Still sick. Not sure with what, but fever and some ooughing still. NO runny nose, NO sore throat, but feel like crap. Haven't eaten anything but a handful of sunflower seeds all day.

2. Husband still sick too. He had to go renew his license since his birthday is tomorrow, anyway.

3. All funds have gone to doc visit for hubby and license getting till tomorrow's payday. And we are sick, so Valentine's day is a bust. Plus, Aunt Flo is here, for the trifecta of crappiness.

But I gots a flamingo! (see other post.)

1. I've been quite productive today (made eye doctor appointment, bought more sleepy pills, mailed packages to my college roommate, and did lots of film shelving and organizing at work).

2. I now have the time to relax, which is delicious.

3. I really don't have anything else. Interesting. I do need to shower and do laundry so once I get those done, I'll have hit the trifecta of awesomeness.

1. I have to go out in the slippery cold world in a little bit, which means

2. I'll have to stop sending Valentines. Doesn't mean I don't love you, though, 'cause I do!

3. Tonight, our now-established St. Valentine's Day tradition: we turn out all the lights and watch cheesy horror movies. I am making a big batch of caramel corn to munch. It will be Teh Awesum.

1. I have an eye doctor and a girly doctor appt tomorrow. I am going to finish the day feeling very violated.

2. I always feel kind of sad and alone on valentines day.

3. I'm going to start work on a new corset for me in a Sacred Heart of Jesus print. It's Sacrilicious!

kellydamnit: I always feel kind of sad and alone on valentines day.

My late partner/best friend and I (who had a very rocky, complicated partnership) had a set-in-stone Valentine's tradition: we went out for Indian food and watched all the couples around us trying and failing to have a romantic evening. It was tremendously satisfying in a mean-spirited, schadenfreude-y way.

What I'm saying: lots of people, couples and otherwise, feel kinda alone on St. Valentine's Day. In my book, it's worse to feel alone when you're with someone.

*hugs kellydamnit* (Hey, is that a boned corset, or are you just happy to see me?)

1. Trying to write a letter of recommendation. Failing. Not because the person sucks - I'm just not feeling inspired.

2. Aside from metachat V-day, which I lurve, and spend hours writing notes to people, I have never participated in valentine's day. Still won't this year. (it made mr. g feel most insecure, our first year together: "what do you mean you don't want anything? is this one of those games women play whereby you'll get mad at me if I don't get you anything?")

3. Gym tonight -- haven't been for 5 days and feeling guilty. Guilty and fat. (actually, the fat might be from the danishes that my colleague brought in this morning, heh.)

Is there room for two on that guilt bus, as I'm feeling much the same.

1) Easy day at work today. "Worked at home" until a 10 a.m. meeting in the city where I live, then went to the city where I work, ate lunch and headed out to have a networking coffee with someone from an organization mine could maybe collaborate with.

2) Said someone was H.O.T. hot, and maybe even single. No wedding ring, and he asked me if I was married. We spoke Spanish for the whole meeting, (he works specifically with hispanic youth, I work with teenagers in general), and more of the conversation than not was about personal stuff. The hello was a handshake. The goodbye was a cheek kiss (in the latino style). Fun!

3) Am making a hot pink, crocheted market bag.

Is it just me, or does that sound smutty?

It's just me, isn't it? Isn't it?

1. The management company of my block of flats is taking legal action against the upstairs arsehole for letting the tree in his garden grow so big that it's undermined the building's foundations. Yay!

2. I'm wishing I was in NYC tonight.

3. Chicken pot pie is in the oven. American Idol will be on TV soon (it's shown on Thurs/Fri here). That's the best I can do tonight.

1. Am struggling to accept gratitude from coworkers for various stuff I dealt with this week while they all had the flu. It feels kind of weird even though I'm actually quite proud of myself for everything I did, which included teaching two classes of third graders and single handedly producing a successful lecture on climate change - but, as I keep telling them, if they really love me, they should just make sure to never, ever breathe near me again. ;-)
1a) Everybody having the flu has made me paranoid and now every time I sniffle slightly I'm like, OMG, HALP, I don't want to get sick oh noes! The flu is out to wreck my weekend! Think good thoughts for me. I do not wish to catch this thing or at least not until Monday.

2. I made an awesome Valentine's card for the BF and got it in the mail on time, yay!

3. I'm being very efficient and energetic lately and this is good. Now, tonight, laundry & Lost & packing and then tomorrow, work in the morning and with a little luck I'll be in Charleston by happy hour Friday!

Put me on the fat guilt bus too, y'all, I probably will have to buy two seats. I did so well last week but this week, uh, not so good.

1) It's a "meh" valentines day, because a friend is down in the dumps and I can do nothing about it, but I try anyway
2) Work is "eh" because the good news is the troublemakers are out for the next few days, but the bad news is I'm cleaning up their mess.
3) The only god thing about M$ Vista is the picture gadget that I've set up to rotate pictures I've downloaded from the Astronomy Picture of the Day

1. Missed out on some donut frenzy as i had to rush off to try and get to the vet to pick up this ear mite medicine because little miss itchypants has been all atwitter and akimbo with some kinda "bug," to my great dismay. After applying the last of the crappy store bought flea stuff to the back of her head (that i said i wasn't gonna use any more) i noticed some ear schmutz and figured it must be mites. Oh, goodie. Other parasites. Can i blame them for her "extreme" behavior as of late? Yes to the rabid head shaking, the vicious head clawing, but the tippy toe food walking and the sudden vocal inquiries of i know not what? It gets better and it gets worse, but right now she looks like some punk rock hyena, and i mean the snotty scrawny greatly unwashed spiky headed kind who flips you off while she shakes the pricey medicinal drops right out of her head.
Goddammit.
Please work anyway, magic flying drops?
2. The hopeful end of one gross thing does not obliviate another: vomit, the sudden eruption of which happened just as i tried to see if i had any valentines. Caught between the computer and the cat, neither thing that needed doing got done well, and she happened to choose the worst place to be suddenly ill, on top of the clean clothes and a stack of my "things" which happened to be a bunch of metachat year of the rat chat pants i made special and hadn't shown because it was suppose to be a big valentine's day reveal. i still have not realize how extensive the spread of her leavings are, as i keep finding tiny nuggets of sick.
GoddddDAMMMIT.
3. She is small and miserable and so i have told people i am staying in to wash the cat, which is not a euphemism no matter what you want to think unless it involves crusty chunks of vomit, and while this could lead to a god damning strike three, i am instead in sudden ownership of a tiny re-ment kitchen with tiny re-ment food, because some people don't know what to do with their impulse shopping. Much cuter by far that my own small ugly kitchen, i haven't even gotten into all the fun discovery of all the little bits, but the problem is this: the Bees really wants to play with it. Bad. So bad. So i have to find a way to make a little hidden room so i can play with it without her going all Godzilla all over it and choking on some tiny plastic muffin or itty bitty sushi or whatever is in there.

She would like to thank everyone who sent her valentines, but she's a kitty who prefers to write dsdmocijkldjkndv, rip out only the prettiest feathers, watch deer beating each other up with hindlegged standing hoof boxing, and holding hands. She insists on holding hands.
She, who has made all my valentine's planning unhygenic, unphotogenic and many other icks.
What's not to love.
Oh, yeah, vomit.

1. gaspode, are you me? the Kiwi, good-at-cricket me? cos I tried to make it clear when I first got together with mr alto that I wasn't interested in V-day, that I thought it was all a bit fake. And he said 'OK', but then talked to his colleagues, who, engineers to a man, told him that I wanted a card *really* and that if he didn't go home with a card and some gas-station flowers I'd be angry. So he did. And I was confused. I've since got to know his colleagues a bit better and they know my views on things now...

2. He still got me a card and some tulips today. We both like tulips. I made Wensleydale risotto and chocolate truffles, which were both awesome. So I guess we did V-day in our own way.

3. boiler is broken again, so I am now going to wake my sleeping husband to take advantage of some of the warmth he will have generated in the last hour while I've been watching ER. mmmmmmmm.

1. Fun day at work today. (but right now my fingers aren't working, and it took me four tries to write that right!)

2. Brought home chocolate covered strawberries for the family. Yumm!

3. Hoping for some cuddle time with the Mr. Chances are very good.

2. Seared scallops and mushroom risotto with tarragon.

3. Probably the peacefullest happiest simplest Valentine's Day ever.
