We Are The Champions! 18 and ONE, Motherfuckers!! It's pandemonium in NYC!
The scene at my beloved Remote Sports Bar was insane. Biggest. Upset. Ever. (You haven't lived until you've sung four shoruses of this song with a barful of Noo Yawk drunks)

It's pretty quiet up here in Washington Heights.

In Astoria, we've got choruses of honking horns and shouts of 'Fuckin' Giants!' from the street (a homeless guy passing by even pumped his fist in the air at me), but I do live near a bar.

Congrats, Jon! What a great game -- greatest upset I've ever seen. Being a hardcore AFC girl, it is a rare day indeed when I root for an NFC victory (especially when it's a team who once beat my beloved Broncos in the Superbowl), but that was really a thing of beauty. GOD, I love football, and GOD, I love good defense, and HOLY GOD do I love a well-played upset. Brilliant! Salut!

Yeah, the game is totally different now and nobody down here really cares anymore, but Miami still says SUCK IT.

Also, I am very happy for Eli Manning. Step up to greatness in your own right, kid.
posted by jonmc 03 February | 22:39
Absolutely. Now it's no longer just Peyton and His Kid Brother. Nicely done. Especially since he's like, what? Sixteen?
posted by scody 03 February | 22:42
One especially nice moment was a loud drunk Giants fan squealing "Here's the story of a man named Brady..."
posted by jonmc 03 February | 22:48
I looked him up and it turns out he's 27. And engaged, and likes to go antique-ing during the off-season.
posted by brina 03 February | 22:48
Oh, and I kind of wish the guys out on the street would go home now. Also that the dude downstairs would stop shouting. Jesus.
posted by brina 03 February | 22:49
That's not the dude downstairs, that's me. sorry.
posted by jonmc 03 February | 22:51
He seriously likes to go antiquing? I thought that was just a Deadspin joke.
posted by casarkos 03 February | 22:55
YES! YES! YES! That fourth quarter (shit, those last THREE MINUTES) nearly gave me a heart attack. That was one hell of a game.
posted by LeeJay 03 February | 22:55
Well, he can afford it...
posted by jonmc 03 February | 22:56
Also, worst commercials ever.
posted by LeeJay 03 February | 22:57
I generally can't stand football, but that was a riveting last quarter, very well played, I think that was my first time yelling HOLY SHIT at the top of my lungs at football game when Manning threw that first long bomb.

Brothaman, you shoulda come and joined me...
posted by jonmc 03 February | 23:07
The Supermodel will dump Brady now. You heard it here first.
posted by danf 03 February | 23:07
Ahh Jon, I'm a family man, I woke up the wife and sent the kid scrambling in from her IM party with my holy shit. Also the one cat jumped a foot in the air and the other one looked at me reproachfully. The dog seemed unimpressed and perhaps a little hungry.

That Declaration of Independence reading at the beginning was so fucking odd and stilted. I was wondering if the NFL was trying to secede from America or something. Ben Franklin, football, what the fuck?
posted by Divine_Wino 03 February | 23:13
In the bar we could barely hear it, so it met with a lot of 'what the fuck?' glances at eachother...
posted by jonmc 03 February | 23:14
(there was a free buffet of penne, chicken fingers and sausage & peppers (it's Queens) if that makes any difference)
posted by jonmc 03 February | 23:16
Glad for you Jon. . .musta been a hell of an evening there!
posted by danf 03 February | 23:18
The Declaration of Indy reading even made AskMe.

I ate a scallop wrapped in dysentery at the Mother in Laws earlier tonight, so I'm good on churning guts right now.

Our super bowl party was wild. What a great game.

Super Bowl, super stomachache. It hurts, it hurts. I really hope all the stuff I took kicks in really soon- I want to sleep!!!

Dinty Moore no more??
posted by mudpuppie 04 February | 01:58
It's a shame someone had to win that game. I was hoping a meteorite would hit the stadium.

What a GREAT fucking game. Best soopah bowl evah! I'm pretty sure our neighbors loved us screeching on the bomb to Tyree. I was yelling, "come ON little brother we are all pulling for YOU! This is it! This is what you have been wanting now GO GET THE DAMN THING and keep it in the family!!!!" It upset one of the cats so much she went out into the living room and hacked up a hairball.

I have to say it was super sweet to see the worried Pats' faces come 4th Q, and I'm sorry but I can NOT stand Tom Brady & BillTheChick, smug arrogant fuckers.

YAY!

I thought I wanted the Giants to win, until that last minute when I was like, "Brady, come on, you can do it, come on!"

And then Bellichek had to go and ruin it by acting like a bit of a baby.

Remember how through season 2 of the Sopranos you felt like "meh, this is alright but one or two good episodes does not a season make"? And then at the end Richie Aprile gets what's coming to him and you realize all the other episodes were just set up for a marvelous and wild conclusion?

That's how I feel about this NFL season. David Chase couldn't have scripted it better.

I'm not sure why people think Belichick's behavior was bad. Yes, he did exit the field before the game was officially over, but everyone had swarmed the field already with 1 second left. He went straight up to Tom Coughlin, congratulated him, then left the field. The field was cleared for the final play (formality). After the game in the locker room, his answers were short and to the point, but none of his answers were rude or sour-grapes.

I knew the Giants would do it. The BF didn't believe me, but I knew it all along. I'm thinking we'll go to Shula's for steak this week to celebrate.
