TV shows you like that are cancelled I'm just getting into Dead Like Me, and it's so sad, because I know there are only two seasons. But I guess I can enjoy those two seasons. And, I liked Journeyman a lot, but I guess that's cancelled, too. Anyone else have a cancelled TV show on their mind?
I've actually just started watching Dead Like Me as well. Firefly is the show that immediately comes to mind.

I liked Gilmore Girls & Veronica Mars -- both cancelled last year. But they both had a good run.

I liked Crossing Jordan - that was cancelled last year too.

An annoyingly designed yet seemingly complete web site with cancelled TV shows.

i liked wonderland. well, at least i liked the two episodes that abc aired before the show was unceremoniously cancelled. it had a lot of potential. plus, seeing martin donovan in a tv series was pretty cool.

Each and every day I shed a tear for Miss Match.

Arrested Development

Deadwood

John from Cincinnati (I am probably the only person that liked this show, but found it getting so weird I want to know how it turned out and they just left me hanging)

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip only survived for one season last year.

(From way back in the day) Millennium. I miss Frank Black so bad.

Oh yeah, and Firefly.

I miss Men in Trees, which was usually a Friday nighter, and night that typically sucks for TV.

I'm a big fan of "On The Air," which only aired for three weeks (after they made 7 episodes).

I miss Men in Trees,

Men in Trees was a blatant ripoff of Northern Exposure, without John Corbett, who is a member of the select group of male celebrities who I'd allow to have their way with me.

I miss Journeyman also.

And Rome!

posted by initapplette 28 January | 10:36
^ yeah, it was. I liked 'em both.

It was nice to see John Amos still getting work. That guy is one of the most unheralded character actors around.

After watching the entire third season of Veronica Mars, I came away thinking that there are not very many shows on network TV as good as that one.

The other one that I watched through it's short life is Committed, the show that had Tom Poston as the dying clown in the closet.

birdherder: yes, yes, and yes.

John from Cincinnati had so much potential it's a travesty that it wasn't given more of a chance. Shame that Milch is playing it safe by following it up with yet another cop show.

I really liked Dark Skies back in the day.

From a long time ago, American Gothic, with Gary Cole as an evil sheriff who may be the devil only lasted one season. Bizarrely enough, it was a collaboration between Sam Raimi and Shaun Cassidy.

Thirding Sports Night. Damn that show was good, until it got muddled down waiting on whether the axe was going to fall.
posted by me3dia 28 January | 11:55
The two episodes of Wonderfalls I saw were pretty great, but I missed the other two that aired. I guess the half season they shot is available on DVD, I should pick it up eventually.

Firefly and Futurama are the big ones.

Also, Upright Citizens Brigade was really starting to hit its groove when it got axed. I'd also like if there were more episodes of The State floating in the ether, but I didn't watch it at the time.

I'm an ardent supporter of Arrested Development, but I did feel that the three seasons were probably enough (maybe just short of enough). It's so dense that the episodes feel fresh for many, many viewings. Technically, though... It's a show I liked that got canceled.

I invested so much in the set up of Carnivale that I was frustrated with the cancellation and the frenzied conclusion. The show was wonderfully crafted and conceived, but the pacing and plot development were abusive.

When I was a kid, I loved Nowhere Man. I think that got canceled?

Angel, Angel, Angel. Okay, it was getting pretty dumb towards the end, but I don't care. I could have gone on watching forever.

Ooh, I forgot about that show. EXCELLENT, creepy-as-hell stuff. (And it's on DVD!)

Oh fuck, how could I forget about staring at Jessica Alba's ass for an hour once a week: Dark Angel.
posted by sperose 28 January | 14:34
I liked Herman's Head. Dark Angel was good, though it started to suck, just before it got cancelled.

Men in Trees isn't cancelled, chewie. It's coming back in February. (I've never even seen an episode of it. I just read far too much entertainment press.)

I agree with pokermonk that AD was best off being a perfect little 3-season gem.

Sports Night was great and I dearly miss both Rome and Deadwood.

There was a show called Almost Grown back in the late 80s that I dearly loved. The music was awesome. One episode revolved around the main characters locking themselves in the college radio station and repeatedly playing "Time" by the Chambers Bros. Another had Ken Olin desperately requesting a particular version of Almost Blue by Elvis Costello. I thought no one in the world remembered this show but me until someone mentioned in on Mefi a while back. And now that I look it up on IMDB, I see that it was a David Chase show. That explains a hell of a lot. I feel vindicated.

I really liked Undeclared. It's too bad they couldn't figure out how to promote it. I don't know anybody who's seen an episode and doesn't like it.
posted by concrete 28 January | 15:22
Oh Undeclared was genius, concrete. I agree. (So much so that I own it on DVD.)

K-9 and Company only got one episode. For shame!

Firefly
My So-Called Life
Sports Night
Ellen (the sitcom)
posted by deborah 28 January | 18:00
Oh, danf, I totally forgot "Committed"! I loved that show!

Ellen was also one of my favorites. And although it's still on, I'm really going to miss "Scrubs". And Mr. V misses "Star Trek: Enterprise".

I really liked Boomtown, but I think it was only around for one season. (Two maybe?)

I'll also pre-emptively add Friday Night Lights to the list, since they're killing it with its time slot.
posted by mudpuppie 28 January | 20:34
I loved Sports Night. I was also a guilty-pleasure fan of Standoff -- the dialogue wasn't Aaron Sorkin, but it wasn't bad, and the leads had awesome chemistry.
posted by booksandlibretti 28 January | 21:15
Yeah, um... I was bummed when they cancelled the Starlost. And Fantastic Journey.

If anyone else actually misses them, please let me know.

:-)

Dead Like Me was cool and its life too brief. Great music, too, mostly by Stewart Copeland. Peter Gabriel even wrote a song with him for the series.

I got into the last couple episodes of Life On Mars, too. Was it canceled prematurely? Its ending was abrupt.

Does anyone remember the first couple years of Fox? Jennifer Love Hewitt started her career on a slightly funny show called On Shaky Ground. Some shows, like the X Files, thrived, while others were just continually cut down and blew away like chaff after barely a season.

LOL, Claudia, Herman's Head is one of those short-lived Fox series I was thinking of. Funny stuff.
