How trendy is Gobelins? I mean the area in the 13th arrondissement. Some people say its the Parisian equivalent of the Meatpacking district (or it soon will be). I'm tempted to stay in a new hotel out there, but seeing as its out of town, i'm hesitating. Anyone been there? Anyone have a recommendation? Or a pearl of wisdom?

many thanks in advance

I can’t say how trendy it is (I’ve not been to Paris for years), but it’s not all that far out of town: the Latin Quarter is only a few minutes’s walk away from the Gobelins metro stop. I guess the southern & eastern parts of the arondissement would be somewhat less convenient, though.

(A friend used to live on Blvd. Arago & I visited him there a couple of times).
