My triflin' cat Meet Prudence (a.k.a. Dr. Monster).

I found her scrawny, sick kitten arse over a decade ago in front of the post office in Wickliffe, KY., during my internship at Wickliffe Mounds. I picked her up, wiped her eyes, fed her a piece of fried chicken, and she's been my shadow ever since.
Awwwww. Fried chicken can inspire dedication no doubt.

kitty!
Cutie, and a model for sure.
i gorged on fried chicken tonight. My old cat Phil loved the distinctive sight of a bird bucket. It was our thing to picnic on the floor with whatever we'd scavenged for our meals, but he had a special thing for the Colonel. Bee doesn't really eat human food, but she does like to walk on it.

If someone fed me fried chicken I'd probably do the same.

She's super-cute.

Very cool! Good on ya! Friends for life now, eh? Of course.

All four of my cats are rescues. One I found just dumped in the snowy bushes outside the front door ten years ago, sitting there quietly and not even asking to be let inside. Just a tiny kitty, not even two months old. When she passes away, somebody better take care of me. Like, fit me in a straightjacket and feed me and give me an IV of something alcoholic or pharmaceutical for as long as I'm out of my head. Please.

Rescues are great. Now I just (literally) have to find an old house and some farm land to buy so I have enough room for the kitties and the two new huge (formerly foster "just for a week", now permanent) dogs that have been eating my life. No kidding. I'm freakin' moving and hopefully buying 'cuz of my animal friends. Well, I've needed to move and quit renting for years, but they're the catalyst.

If I get a big old place with lots of rooms (and lots of acres), maybe I'll start an artist farm. Free rent for friends, just take care of the rescues and fosters, lol. And take turns cooking vegan meals.

OMG DO IT. BUY PROPERTY. i sooo need to move and we don't need much space, me and The Bees. Plus we have many skills to earn our keep and make the moneys and cook the vegans.

Trained for that whole straightjacket scenario as well, with impressive references if you make me make them.

i can help with my odd bits of know how and the collusion of events and happenstance. Just, like, not right now as all my muscles seem to have seized up with cold when i stopped toting that barge and lifting that bale.
Go HUD hunting! Send me parameters and specifics! We can fixer upper!

She's soooo cute! I think it's wonderful that you adopted those fish as well.

Thanks, guys, for havin' a look at my buddy.

re: buying property--My boyfriend and I are looking for a house with acreage someplace out-of-the-way around Kentucky Lake or Lake Barkley, if we stay in this region. He has four outdoor cats, all litter mates, that will be with us, too.

We've been discussing getting a fixer-upper and/or building a place. He used to build houses and has lots of ideas for additions or improvements. Sustainable living is important to us and we're examining passive and active solar options, small-scale tree farming, water reclamation, and our food supply. I'm already picking out what varieties of chickens to order so we can have fresh eggs and meat (fried chicken!!!) to go with whatever we garden.

re: fish--I actually adopted a fish last month. A classmate complained that she was tired of taking care of her Betta splendens and I offered to give him a home. Bettas are hardy and deal with poor water conditions better than most fish, but the water that came with him had outrageously-high ammonia levels. He was pale and clenched his fins when I got him. He's an aggressively-curious, sassy, bubble-nest-building fool now.

This was Jersey, the day we found her. Bony, sick, and underweight. We had to give her Amoxycillin for her infection.

This is Jersey now, a year and a half later. She rules the house!

All my cats have just shown up. Whether in the yard, dropped off by a friend, or the child of a stray, they somehow find me.

Heh. Looks like the Dr. has designs on something mischievous. And good job on the fish rescue!

Shane that's a great story! We have two rescue kitters, too. One was a peanut like shane's and the other was about 5 when we got him. I can't imagine living without animals.

on preview, redvixen Jersey even sticks her tongue out!
