I made the crusty bread, as promised [More:]And it is delicious.

Someone on a foody blog said that there was no possible way it could be as good as no-knead dutch oven bread. Well, I don't know about all that. But I do know...delicious.

I had a few limitations, ie: making it in my tiny kitchen with my tiny tabletop oven. But it came out ok! The best part is, I made two mini loaves and am giving one to a friend who I'm hanging out with later.

It also makes a lot of bread - four regular loaves is the yield, which ended up being seven mini-loaves' worth. I baked two and froze the dough in individual portions, so I can have bread whenever, just have to thaw.

If you're scared of making bread, try this recipe, it's insanely easy. I ate a couple slices with some ripe tomato, fresh feta and a little olive oil, salt and pepper.
Thanks for the report. Eh, what do foodies know? Good on you for trying with your tabletop oven and for sharing and storing your efforts. It sounds good.

What did you bake it in, Sass?

Just some disposable grocery store loaf tins, greased with a little olive oil. Needless to say, I don't have the baking stone the article mentions.

Also, I brought the mini loaf to my friend I was meeting for a drink and she ate it right there, in the bar. The whole loaf. No butter. I love that girl.

It is definitely crusty though, so if you like to have more of a balance I would go with the regular size loaf. I like the crust best, so I'm pleased with this turn of events.

It turns out pretty well. I got back from work at 5.30 and by 7.15 I had a large bowl of freshly made soup and a couple of very thick slices of fresh bread. I'll make this again, definitely.
