Oooh! I saw that recipe a few days ago and want to try it...but first I need a dutch oven. Blast this purchasing freeze on kitchen equipment.
Was it tasty? How does it compare taste- and texture-wise to normal-rise bread? (I tried making a quick beer bread once and it was hideous.)
And, to answer your question, I just finished up the last three episodes of season 3 of Buffy. I was utterly wrecked and bawling. GodDAMN this show is getting me.
I'm going to try this bread recipe tomorrow, mainly because it's one of the recent crop of bread recipes that *doesn't* need a dutch oven. The sad thing is, I will be baking a small loaf of it in my tabletop oven, and a dutch oven will just not cram into that bad boy.
SassHat: I've been making that bread all week! How funny. It's pretty good. I've been jacking with the recipe, and the best I've made it is with fresh rosemary. It's sooo good that way. Good luck!
I will give the No-Time bread or the Simple Crusty bread recipe a try the next time I get all bakey. I made No-Knead bread a few weeks ago and it was incredible, despite being my first time ever to bake bread. I haven't a dutch oven; instead, I use a Romertopf clay baker.
I spent part of Saturday looking up recipes and buying the ingredients to make my first batches of hummus and falafels. Didn't cook because I had Friday's leftover curry to finish.
This is hilarious. My wife is making No-Knead bread right at this very moment. I told her of this post and she said that there is some kind of bread revolution right now, she said that there's tons of things about bread all of the sudden. Weird.
Taste- and texture-wise it wasn't much different than normal bread. Maybe that will change today now that it's no longer warm, but I'm thinking of trying french toast with it. bonobo: That No-Kneed bread recipe is next on my list. I've always had a love affair with bread, and no diet is ever going to change that.
Fuzz: If you don't have a dutch oven, you could probably use any oven-safe container with a lid... or even aluminum foil over the top. Just something to keep all of the moisture in.
I have to admit that I was given this dutch oven by my ex's mother years ago, and this is the first time I've used it. What else does one do with a dutch oven?
Fuzzbean, I have a beer bread recipe that seems to turn out pretty good. Mix 3 cups self-rising flour, 1/2 cup sugar, and 12 oz of beer. (I used Guinness last time and it was really awesome, gave the bread a dark caramel-y look and taste.) Put in buttered loaf pan. Bake at 325 for 1.5 hours, basting with butter every 30 min.
