Nerdly fascinations (or: SCIENCE!!!) [More:]

I have been reading these two articles for the last half hour, in one of those one-thing-leads-to-another breadcrumb trail of geekery. I'm finding this subject inexplicably fascinating... although I will freely admit that when I got to this part where the Greek alphabet kinda barfed all over the article, my eyes glazed over and I was all like... 'woah'.

tho "Tidal Love Number" is a SUPERB sockpuppet bandname, doncha think?

What oddball gems of pedantic nerdery have you discovered lately?
I don't know about gems, but it's been a fairly nerdy afternoon.

In between studying empirical tests of the coefficient of risk-aversion, I read about the Roy Meadow case, an expert witness whose lack of understanding of statistics (the prosecutor's fallacy, amongst others) ensured an innocent mother was sentenced to life imprisonment for allegedly murdering both her young children.

Also, the IKEA thread reminded me of this deeply nerdy Economist article about tax avoidance.
