How the Grinch stole Christmas Doohickie style. [More:] So I've been remodeling and thought I would have the bathroom that my sons use done by today, but I got Grinched. The line coming from the water supply valve for the toilet snapped off when I tried to reconnect it. So now when everyone else is going for after Christmas sales, I'll be heading to the plumbing department...
Hey, that makes for good family bonding - the family that shares a bathroom is close indeed. As a bonus, I bet the hardware store will not be busy tomorrow. Hope all the rest of your holiday is grinch-free.

Ah, the fun (and family bonding!) of getting out the ol' propane torch and solder on Xmas day! Could be worse, you could be one of the kids working in Home Depot on Xmas Day, LOL.

Good luck, I hope that's the extent of your holiday probs, and feel free to e-mail me if you need tips (as I just recently installed a water heater with my uncle, and I might be doing this at uncle's house today on his dishwasher line, LOL--you're not alone.)
:-)

TIP!: Don't try to melt the solder all the way around and don't use too much flux. Use the flux mostly to take off the old weld then, instead of melting solder all the way around, just let it run itself (referred to as "capillary action" in plumber's terms) around the joint.

Kidding. You probably already knew that. You're obviously handy.

Nope, not that handy. I have used the torch in plumbing exactly once. I'm a big fan of compression fittings.

GAH! So, I noticed the bath nozzle was leaking a bit. I checked it out and found the copper pipe coming out of the wall had a hole in it from where the screw was clamped on (for the nozzle). So I figured, hey, shane thinks I'm handy. I'll just cut off the leaky part and sweat on a new piece of tube.

So for the last two hours I've almost burnt my house down with that stupid torch. And I couldn't get the joint done. I'm calling a plumber. :/
