20 December 2007

Oh God, bunnies. It's finally happened. [More:]The rift is complete, the connection sundered. The amicable divorce is no longer so amicable. While I was downstairs listening to Frank, she was upstairs plotting my downfall. I've been booted from my house, the one I pay the mortgage on. My clothes are in my car. My books are....well, maybe she'll let me come get them tomorrow. She's gonna scream when I take my cat. MY CAT. Not her cat. This is so stupid and profane and unnecessary and sad and GYOFB, BOP.

She's a cold-hearted bitch and it didn't hafta be this way.

I need major hugs, peeps.

Dang, that's cold, man.

(Hey, legally CAN she boot you from your own house? I would check on that, friend. If your name is on the mortgage, I think she may have overstepped her legal bounds.)
posted by bunnyfire 20 December | 08:00
Legal has little to do with it, unfortunately.

*Punches BOP on the arm in a blokey sort of way*

Aw, who am I kidding?

I wouldn't leave until you get a lawyer on the phone. If you vacate the property she'll have a better case for keeping it, and all in it, once the divorce goes through.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, divorce can really suck.

When I was in the divorce process, my soon-to-be ex swore out a complaint with law enforcement that I had physically attacked her (completely and utterly false) and that she feared for her safety as a result.

Later that night, uniformed sheriff's deputies came with a warrant to remove me from the house. I had no choice ... I had to leave. I had to live in a motel room for three weeks until the court hearing.

At the hearing, I was completely exonerated because she made the whole thing up. The judge said I could move back to the house, but after the awful experience I was ready to move on and expedite the divorce.

The point of the story is that anything can happen whether it is legally valid, or not. Divorce sucks.

Hang in there Punk.

Hang in there, good luck, words of support. This is quite a bad week for this stuff--I'll be moving out of my house this weekend :-( The papers haven't been filed yet but I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of time. Anyways if you need a commiserator, count me in for it.

Oh, man, that sucks. All those bad possibilities listed up there? Been there, done that. Unless there are kids involved who will get hurt, you should fight to the bitter end to get your fair share, even though it's incredibly stressful and somewhat risky for males, if your ex has a mean streak and doesn't mind using it. It's not about the money or possessions, it's about what's right and fair.

Please accept this manly hug and a few slaps on the back as a sign of support. Keep your chin up and fight for what's right.

Ah hon, so sorry. Divorce SUCKS and I wish I could come up with a more poignant and amusing way to say that but alas, the only damn good thing about the process is the wealth of evil tales you get to spin some five years down the road and frankly, that's just not much of a silver lining. However, wait, there are more silver linings, maybe not to the process but definitely to the end of it all. To wit: bad relationships are horrible; they are no fun; you don't even sometimes realize how miserable you've been until it's over and when it's all, all over - yeah, years, yeah, I know - you do realize that you're SO much better off, SO much happier and the world is a bigger, better and brighter place with wider horizons than you thought it was before.

*mygothlaundry is roughly 12 years past her divorce and pretty clear on the fact that it was one of the best things that ever happened although at the time, jesus, it was unbelievably awful.*

Yeah, listen to the laundry lady, she knows. Depending on how things pan out from here, you might not be at the bottom yet, but you're pretty close, so things won't get much worse before they start getting better. A whole new world of possibilities awaits you out there.

.....aaaaand then the power goes out all day. And I have a flat in the rain. And Mom discovers (or rather, re-re-discovers) my cellphone number and calls me every ten minutes demanding "her car back" though she hasn't driven in almost two years.

*sigh*

You almost hafta smile, you know? If I take a step back, I can totally see this as slapstick. Today was a perfect storm.

But I've had time to reflect and you know what? It's like going to the dentist. You now it's going to happen and you know it's going to suck and then it happens and MAN you were right it sure did suck but now the hardest part is over and all that's left is waiting for the wounds to heal.

And lying on the sofa in a narcotized haze. Drooling a little.

Thanks for the whuffles, y'all!

And cheers, Joe. I'm right there with you, man.

Sorry to hear, BOP...

Lo the many years ago, my now ex-husband and I tried to stay under the same roof for awhile while getting divorced. It ended one rainy night when I knocked a hole in the wall with a souvenier alligator head. He packed a bag and got the hell out. Can't say I blamed him.

We're both happily remarried now. Not that you're in the mood to think about that, I imagine.

Hope you feel better... as better as able, anyways.
