i just heard part of the new sweeney todd soundtrack and it isn't half bad. sure, johnny depp is no len cariou and helena bonham-carter is no angela lansbury, but the new recording sounds a lot better than i thought it would.
Every year at Christmas for the past few years, we've gone to see a movie musical. Last year was Hairspray, the year before- Dreamgirls. My Dad wants to take us to see Sweeney Todd this year, but I refuse to go- I've seen enough of Sweeney Todd to know I don't like it. Violence squeeks me out, big time, and I hear the movie is very bloody. It's possible my father is going to kick me out of the family.
Well, on-stage, Sweeney Todd is traditionally not VERY gruesome - simulated for comical effect rather than for realism. But yes, the trailer makes the movie look grue-some, which I'm not a fan of.
I'm also sick of Helena Bonham-Carter with her crazy-matted-hair look: She did it in Big Fish, she did it in the latest Harry Potter, and didn't animated-her do it in The Corpse Bride?
Sweeney Todd is one of my all-time favorites. I'm taking the fact that the movie opens on my birthday as a symbol of its awesomeness. I'm going to see it with my sisters.

i'm not a huge fan of that particular mode of hers either, but after watching it again recently i can say that it worked pretty well for her in fight club though, imho.
I have mixed feelings about this movie, since Mr. Psho-to-be's uncle was cut from it at the last minute (along with Christopher Lee and that guy from "Buffy"). And it is supposed to be quite bloody, and they cut a lot of songs out.
But... it's "Sweeney Todd" -- the anti-"Moulin Rouge." I probably have to go, just to encourage the production of decent movie musicals.
