I can haz Prius!→[More:]Thanks to all of you who offered me car-buying advice in this thread, we have just bought a shiny new Prius. I am in love with it. It is from the future. I have named it McFly.
Thanks! It's a dark metallic grey. It has the super cool touch screen and the back-up cam. I'm soooo not a car person, but I'm really excited about this one. FUTURE CAR!!
Driving one is a little like piloting the starship Enterprise, except it doesn't go quite as fast (yet Al Gore's son showed us it does go into triple digit mph).
I've been using touch screens at work and they are indeed super cool. I've been trying to touch Mrs Dundee's iMac screen a lot, and my new lcd (less often) since. It is the obvious way to make an interface work. I can't believe they're expensive (because work has them), but you rarely see them in consumer electronics. Prediction: you will start treating many other screens in a touchy way in the near future and start to wonder why they don't have that particular tech.
jrossi, that is so cool! Congrats. Hubby has been wanting to buy me a Prius for a while. I'm not sure. I'm thinking and singing Big Girl in a Little Car... I want a minivan. I never thought I would ever want a minivan. It's probably not going to happen. My next car will probably be the Prius or some other hybrid. I think the Highlander is available in hybrid, or will be.
Our close family members in the more southern part of the state drive diesel Jettas and they make their own biodiesel from the cooking oil from their restaurants. Pretty cool, I think. They save tons of money.

Ok, here's a thought: A diesel Jetta gets damn good mileage, 40-45mpg if I recall correctly. That's edging close to what a gasoline hybrid can do. Diesel hybrid systems are nothing new - locomotives have been diesel-electric hybrids for decades. Is there any good reason not to combine a hybrid system with a high efficiency diesel motor in a passenger car? Common sense says it should be diesel hybrid FTW!
Big Girl in a Little Car..
Ha! That song was sung by the mister, as well. But it turns out that the Prius isn't all that little and the Highlander hybrid has deceptively little leg room. Go sit in one! It's love at first sit.
there is a Delorean that lives in my neighborhood with a license plate that reads "MCFLY"!
I need to meet this person. Clearly, they are my density.
I would have thought that all people were pretty much the same density? But then, SCIENCE! was never my strong subject.
I don't think much of the hybrid cars because I have heard so much bad news about maintenance and other on-going costs. Well, that's about 1% of it - I just like to drive fast and to hell with the rest of the world - there should be enough oil left to last me and, after that, who cares*?
I care, that's who - just talking out my arse again ;-)
