disclaimer: I'm no expert. [NOT EXPERTIST!] I just noodle around with inks and paints.

If I'm having trouble getting an image inked properly, I use a brayer* to apply the ink to the lino block or stamp. Then I lay the lino block image-side down on the paper and, putting some scrap paper over it so the reverse doesn't get all messy and holding the whole thing stable with one hand so it doesn't shift, I roll the brayer over the whole thing to apply pressure to the entire block. This usually works for me.

I don't know if that's helpful.

You might also try diluting a small quantity of ink/paint with an appropriate thinner to see if it's easier to work with.

*A brayer is like a small paint roller. Mine is made of a rubbery substance similar to rubber-stamp material.

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth, I did linoleum cuts. Let me see if I can remember what we did...I do know you will want to use a brayer. I don't think the paper matters so much as long as it is absorbent.

I did see brayers in the same section but I was too cheap to buy one. Perhaps it's worth it.
