Because it's dropped off the page... How do we get to #bunnies now? I tried all the options listed, but no dice. [More:] Am I doing something wrong? Suggestions?
i just used the first link on this page directly. Otherwise i open chatzilla (firefox, mac), join slashnet, and then join bunnies. i don't know any other tricks than that. Sometimes it's just dead.

Yeah, slashnet is sucking these days. Sometimes it takes 20 to 30 tries to log in. Some nights not at all. On the upside, last night I got in first time.

Too bad you guys weren't there. i'm too tired to chat tonight and must tend to a vat of soup.

You guys should paste the connection problems you are having so we can help you diagonse it.

I get the generic Firefox 'Problem Loading Page' or 'Connection Timed Out' messages.

This is the error message I receive:

[INFO] Network view for “irc.slashnet.org” opened.

[INFO] Connecting to irc://irc.slashnet.org/ (irc://irc.slashnet.org/)... [Cancel]

...with the reconnection time doubling each cycle through.

item, try the server: vortex.slashnet.org

I hope someone can help with this, and if they do we'll put it on the sidebar - but I suspect there's nothing to be done on the user end except keep trying. I just tried to load the slashnet faq page and it timed out, so I imagine the problem is pretty much systemic.

The only real problems with slashnet is that area51 is down. The website and area51 were on the same box. When folks try to connect to irc.slashnet.org sometimes it resolves to area51 so a dns flush should fix that problem.
posted by bigmusic 04 December | 01:44
Actually don't use irc.slashnet.org at all as a server, it just adds a layer of complication in the troubleshooting process that muddys the situation.

Yeah, I get a time out at vortex.slashnet.org.

By the way, I get the message I posted above using Chatzilla. I get a connetion timed out message when I try the java client.

I get no feedback. The connection just never resolves. vortex.slashnet.org or any other of the links offered. Slashnet keeps saying it's just the failure of area51 but that is bullshit.

First thing I tried was a DNS flush back what, three weeks ago? I've done traceroots and they time out too. Slashnet has some other issues. I got in first try tonight but after 10 or 15 minutes it just went away.

I'm trying to understand why it only affects a few users - most of the folks in #bunnies and #mefi have had no problems connecting at all. So what does arse_hat and item have in common?
posted by bigmusic 04 December | 02:43
I've tried mIrc and Opera and some other thing I downloaded. Of course I can't connect to the java client because that's on slashnet. Oh, and it's more than just a few users.

Before I gave up on #bunnies, I got the same issue as arse_hat. I tried both Chatzilla and Trillian at various times, but never ever got anywhere.

What about connecting directly to one of the IP address? E.g.

203.31.212.10

or

145.97.193.206

for example.

Either of those work at all?

I use Pidgin to connect to IRC. My connection to my freenode IRC channel works fine, but slashnet just doesn't seem to work. It is clearly a problem with slashnet.

If the problem persists, any chance #bunnies might move to freenode? The only thing is I don't think freenode offers a webchat for those that don't have an IRC client.

I can't get in, but it's probably user error on my part with the work arounds. No biggie, but I love Taz's sidebar idea (or Wiki).

Very odd that some of you can't ever get in- I never have problems.

i have had luck with moo.slashnet.org
