About that apartment ... →[More:]I was waiting until it was official, and then for some reason I decided it wasn't important enough or interesting enough to post here, but I've changed my mind.
So we got an almost identical place. The layout is the same, but flipped, on the top floor of a brownstone built in 1899. We have two non-working fireplaces, a private entrance, and the built-in wardrobe I fell in love with. Seriously, there is more closet space in this new apartment than we could ever have dreamed of.
It's one and a half bedrooms. Or two bedrooms, depending on how big a room needs to be for your specifications. There are old wooden shutters inside all the windows. The moldings are beautiful.
And we don't have to live in somebody's
house, which was the problem with the other place. We wouldn't have had a private entrance at all, and our apartment would have just opened ... into another person's home. Also there wasn't really any way of going from one room into another without sort of leaving the apartment and going in through another door.
Point here is, taz was right: We had to find the place we absolutely loved and then find we didn't love it so much, only to find one we loved even more.
This place isn't as meticulously restored, but ... honestly? I don't want to live with some fussy old dudes who are going to freak if I spill something on the floor, you know? So this is good.
Our lease starts on the 15th! All is signed and initialed and paid for. Wheee!
