What's for dinner?→[More:] Around here it's tacos (crispy potatoes, homemade pico de gallo [sans cilantro], avocado, pickled veggies, black beans, corn tortillas) and some tostones (fried plantains with a citrus/olive oil dressing).
We made some paninis from some of the suggestions in my recent AskMe about stuffed sandwiches. Combinations of artichokes, kalamata olives, feta, tomatoes, pepperocini, mozzerella, caramelized onions, smoked turkey, and a few other things I can't recall at the moment.
Right now I'm indulging in a cup of coffee, which I never drink. If you add some pumpkin pie spice to the grounds in a french press, you get a little bit of coffee heaven 4 minutes later.
Grumble, bitch, whine and moan - I'm sick and I had to eat turkey again. I'm so sick of turkey. Even turkey disguised in a delicious stew is still turkey. Gobble gobble. At least I slipped a shot of vodka into my lemon ginger echinacea juice.
Cannelloni with Arrabbiata sauce, ricotta, and spinach and a simple salad with oil, vinigar, garlic and black pepper. Nice after an afternoon of raking leaves.
Getting clear of Thanksgiving leftovers - couldn't face any more rich, buttery flavors. So I grilled a chicken breast and sliced it, then made a salad with cold buckwheat noodles, greens, shredded carrots, scallions, celery, and radishes, and dressed the whole thing with the pantry-sourced asian standby dressing: 1 T. soy, 1 T. rice vin, 1 T. sesame oil, 1 T. honey, some chopped ginger and garlic.
Dinner SUCKED. And not in a good way. Baked some broccoli and cauliflower in a cheese sauce that never quite sauced up enough, and in spite of the mustard and cayenne pepper it was bland and cruddy. I'm glaring at the leftovers that I certainly have no intention of eating. Bleah.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see
the biggest spud would be from me
And the card attached would say
Thank you for being a friend
Cottage pie (which is basically shepherd's pie with ground beef in place of lamb).
I had to use up the leftover potatoes from thanksgiving, they were thinning out much more slowly than the leftover turkey and the stuffing (which is actually gone).
I tried to eat lentil soup, but I couldn't keep anything at all down yesterday. Now it's 5.40am, I've already had a good cry about feeling so sick and shitty, and I've eaten one gingernut biscuit very, very slowly and trying to make my way through a second so I can take some painkillers without puking.
I've been well for 10 days out of the last month. I am so glad those ten days coincided with my and my boyfriend's birthdays!
goo, you might try what my husband makes for sicky-tummy invalid food: short-grain white rice, boiled not steamed (it comes out creamy, like risotto), with a bit of lemon juice and olive oil in it.
It's pretty much all I can eat when I feel like you do. Why have you been feeling so bad for so long? What is it?
Oh, taz. Yummy spanakoptika, very nice neighbours. I'm alright, just my immunity seems to be low and I'm picking up everything. I was really well for the last year, then I got tonsillitis at the beginning of the month (after returning from a holiday over three continents and the weather changing here in London), then a viral infection. Then I was okay (but really tired) for 10 or so days, then got a killer sore throat, fever, chills, puking etc on Monday. I went to the doc again yesterday, it's another infection so he prescribed some more antibiotics in case it's bacterial. My boyfriend is in Stockholm until Sunday, so I'm a little bit worried I'll do something stupid like turn the heat off in a feverish haze or give up altogether on trying to eat.
Diluted apple juice with lots of ice is all kinds of awesome, though, right at this point.
Hot dogs, fries and cider at the barbecue place near BAM in Fort Greene---I'd been there several times before to sample their other meats, but I didn't have time for anything else tonight.
I missed the first two trains to Jersey on Thanksgiving afternoon(I forgot that I could have bought a ticket on the second train instead of standing in a huge line), so what I was served was cold.
