Computers! On sale! I love how whenever I want to buy a computer they always seem to be on sale for a limited time only! What an amazing coincidence! Lucky me!!!!!!!11111one

It's just misleading marketing, cmonkey. In France they ban stores from having sales more than a couple of times a year to avoid this. Of course that might not be the best solution for the consumer either.

Technically all desktop systems are always on sale at the retail level- the normal prices are generally below what the stores pay for them.
They make the money by selling you a wireless card, printer, service plan, and installing upgrades, and so on.

My aunt ran into that problem yesterday - she wanted to buy the $400 laptop she saw advertised at Best Buy, but it was only available with the $130 "Performance and Security" package (Geek Squad workers removing the pre-installed crapware and installing some second-tier antivirus program. Seriously - she called me on her cell from the store and had the salesman explain it to me so I could tell her whether or not it was worth the money.).
