Three point status update: LONG WEEKEND EDITION! Here it is only Friday, and I feel like I have to be in bed for work tomorrow... but the real weekend hasn't even started yet! Woo woo!

So what's everyone doing with the next two days?[More:]

3. Getting inked! I'm getting backseams- done as a line of stitches with a button at the top and bottom!
2. Doing a corset model shoot for a photographer friend. I'm petrified. I'm not skinny or pretty enough to be a model, and my skin is a mess. I'll blink. And make faces without knowing it. And I can hear Carrie's mother in my brain screaming "they're all gonna laugh at you!"
1. eating leftovers every chance I get...

oh, and bonus "oh wow this is great!" recipe from my dinner, my mom's super easy but looks so fancy asparagus rolls.

Take a brick of softened cream cheese and a standard tub of sour cream and mix.
Spread that mix on slices of ham (like, lunch meat thickness).
Roll asparagus up in it (my mom uses frozen, I got fresh and steamed it the night before).
Put in a big casserole dish, enchilada style.
heat it however you prefer. If the microwave's big enough zap it, otherwise it can just be tossed in the oven.
Top with piping hot hollandaise sauce (from an envelope since, with a turkey and everything else to worry about, who wants to futz around with a real sauce that can break at any second?)
Garnish with bits of hard boiled egg.

mmmmm.....
Reheats ugly, but tasty.
*waits for inevitable 'this thread is useless without pictures' comments re Kelly's corset shoot*

Not a holiday weekend here, although for me it's a 'long' one because I work from home on Fridays. A day out of the office is like a holiday.

I'm debating the idea of going to North Weald Market, a big open-air market held on an airfield. It's huge, and interesting, but I don't actually need to buy anything so it'd be to browse. But if I don't leave by 8am (in 20 minutes) it's not worth going because the traffic gets so heavy.

I'm also going to get to Costco this weekend, probably on the way back from the market (yes, I think I'll go) and buy myself a coffee grinder. They have this model selling for about £40. An early Christmas gift to myself.

This evening, dinner with a friend (she's not a very good cook, I'm afraid - she doesn't use any seasonings so everything tastes of blah, but I'm going for the company, not the food) then an AA meeting.

Tomorrow I plan a walk along the South Bank in London, if the weather stays good. It's ages since I've done that.

Kelly, you will rock that corset shoot.

Here's a video of the market. As you can see, it gets busy, so I have to go early, I hate it crowded.

That market looks awesome! We have stuff like that here, but on a much much smaller scale. I always try to go, though, since the Amish families usually set up tables and they make the best baked goods I've ever had.

You should get your friend a cute spice rack for Christmas... they'll never know why, and if you say it's because they cook for you so often it'll just seem like a thoughtful gift. The secret being, once she HAS the spices she's more likely to want to try them all out! :D

For the next two days,I will be sleeping, drinking, and burying my marmalade in the back yard, because
we have to dig up and fix the septic tank.I might also find some time to stare,or perhaps banish some outer circle entities. They tend to get bothersome sometimes.

1. The Apple Cup is on Saturday and the Seattle Marathon is Sunday; both will adversely influence the traffic in our neighborhood. This means that any trip we take will require planning and strategy. I think we’re up to it.

2. There’s also a 40% chance of rain all weekend. Ordinarily this would mean that it will rain 40% of the time. Lately, however, their percentages have been fairly accurate, so there’s a possibility of a dry period.

3. Taking all this into account, we’ve made tentative plans to take the dog to Carkeek Park on Saturday, via a roundabout route which should avoid football traffic. Sunday we’re taking a bus downtown to see I’m Not There and maybe have some dinner afterwards. Depending on the weather, we may reverse that. Everything else is up in the air, which is standard operating procedure around here. We like to keep it loose.

I spent all night in the studio, which is where I'm happiest (even though it's quite stressful). Mixing today. Why in the fuck I'm forced to work a day job is beyond me :-)

Right now, I'm watching Jools Holland with my eldest daughter and eating eggs.

Later tonight, my wife and her kin are going to have a Pudding Club thing, so I may have people over.

I should get beer.

I gotta go to a wedding on base. I don't even know the people (they are clients of my husband.)

That and church on Sunday are about it on plans so far. Hubby is getting over his virus so I don't know if we'll do much anything else. (yawn.)

1. Went to the market. It was great but extremely cold. I wore heavy jeans & boots, T-shirt, hoodie (with hood up), fleece jacket, baseball hat, fingerless gloves and full gloves and I was still cold.

The elderly couple who normally dress as clowns collecting for charity are now in their Santa and Mrs Claus costumes. I bought a whetstone to sharpen my knives and one of those South American style knitted hats with ear flaps. There were some terrible crimes against punctuation and grammar, particularly apostrophes (or should that be "apostrophe's"), on the market stall signage.

2. Then to Costco and I bought the Cuisinart coffee mill, which was £36 as against £56 or £59 everywhere online. I also bought coffee beans. I tried a sample of bean and cheese burrito which burned my mouth but was still very good. I wish we could get decent Mexican food in the UK.

3. My flat smells of ground coffee now, and I'm about to have my first cup from the newly-milled stuff. Mmmm... it's good.

Jags vs. Bills Sunday at 1:00 p.m. We go to 1 or maybe 2 NFL games a year. The Bills got whumped 56-10 last week by the Pats, the worst loss in the history of the Bills. So, they're coming into sunny, warm Jacksonville looking to turn that around. Jags are still favored by 6+.

I'm going to the college football game of the century (Kansas vs. Missouri), and best of all, my tickets are free!

Tile, tile and more tile:

≡ Click to see image ≡

For the back hallway, outside the bedroom I remodeled earlier this fall. Also for the bathroom that leads off that hallway, and eventually the entire kitchen that the hallway empties into.

I will be a skilled tile mason when I'm all done with that.

And paulsc... GO BILLS! ;-)

I'm having a tough holiday. First Thanksgiving since the divorce, so I've been dreaming about my ex a lot, which always wakes me up feeling melancholy. Missing the boyfriend a lot, too. He's in Missouri till Monday, and I really want to see him sooner than Monday night. Stressed out about my life in general, since I'm at my sister's and have some distance from things. Worried about the bar exam and money and the boyfriend leaving for grad school in May. I'm not sorry my marriage ended, but I miss my old life, especially around the holidays.

Sister in law and her new boyfriend are in town today, so we are meeting up with them for dinner this evening.

Tomorrow I am prepping for my colonoscopy on Monday. Yeah, I bet I have the most exciting Sunday planned... Heh.

Twiggy, hugs to you. Things will get better.

Doohickie, thanks for sharing the bedroom remodel, I missed that somehow. It's beautiful!

Today I must clean my master bedroom and bath. They are in very bad shape. Layers of dust and clothes on the floor is not very conducive to romance and relaxing.

Tomorrow is more cleaning, more painting, and more home improving.

I had a very good holiday. The best Thanksgiving in years. My father and I actually had a civilized discussion about homosexuality.

Yesterday I shopped on Black Friday. That was pretty much torturous.

Since it's sunny, I plan to rake leaves. I have to return some stuff to a store because I have to go into frugal mode. Zillions of tasks at home, to get ready to move. Visiting the dog park would make the beast very happy, plus better-behaved.

Hang in there, Twiggy. You sound like you've got a good handle on things.

Just finished mixing... new song up. We're pretty pleased with it.

Still working slowly on Thanksgiving cleanup, doing a lot of lying around. Last night we were going to go to a movie but ended up meeting some friends for a drink first which then turned into a whole evening at the bar - fun, but we're both moving a little cautiously today. In an hour or so we're going to take the dogs for a hike and then go around returning Thanksgiving dishes, have a drink with my mother and then go to some friends for dinner. Everybody wants to meet the new BF. Yay, hee, all good. Except tomorrow morning he's going back to South Carolina and given work schedules, I won't see him again for at least 2 weeks. Boo, long distance relationships.

We just pulled out the sofabed in the livingroom, which points directly at the TV. There's a 50/50 chance we're going to go rollerskating at Orbit tonight, but I suspect continued lounging will win out in the end.

Today: Cleaned house. A friend of mine is coming over shortly for hanging out, and then probably a bunch of Quakers are coming over tonight.

Tomorrow: Maybe Beowulf?

Gaspode, good luck. Mine is this Thursday. I am not looking forward to it.

The Bills make me glad I follow hockey. ;)

First Thanksgiving since the divorce, so I've been dreaming about my ex a lot, which always wakes me up feeling melancholy.
*hugs*
I've been there, too. I still get like that on occasion, too. But it does get a lot easier, believe me. The best thing for me was to NOT sit home alone on holidays, etc. Even if I didn't have family stuff of my own I was always sure to accept friends invites to their family stuff, or just invite friends over to spend the day with me instead. So much easier to be happy with people around instead of getting all lost in your thoughts.
It may work differently for you, but my first few holidays after my marriage ended seemed to go best when I wasn't alone to mull over things and get all morose.

Tomorrow: Maybe Beowulf?
You MUST provide a review after! I am so torn on if I want to see this or not. I have a metric ton of free passes to the Regal, and I don't know if I want to use them for that, or save them for Sweeney Todd.

And, I just cemented some of my plans next weekend. A local rockabilly gal who does hair independently is popping by to give me a cut and dye job, and do my friend Danielle's hair as well.
(oh, my sewing thing has a pic of one of the items I'll be modeling.)

I had originally planned on doing some more work on AnimeNEXT and Katsucon this weekend, maybe throw some more items up on eBay, and hang out with friends on Sunday.

However, after an epic karaoke night on Thursday, I'm now in Stamford, Connecticut, hanging out with a guy that I just met that night. It's been almost nothing but food, geekery, and sex for the last 48 hours.

This is officially my best New York Thanksgiving so far.

1. I haven't felt this relaxed in months. A long marathon of a fall which included far too many commitments and a couple major expeditions had exhausted me. For the last four weeks, this Thanksgiving had hung over my head with an unsure "how will it go aura?" but it somehow all got done/bought/cleaned/cooked, the family was presentable, and we all got along and had some laughs and some pie. Life is beautiful just now.

2. I'm fat and I'm gonna have to hit the gym and curtail the food indulgences to get back into my clothes. One bad thing about getting yourself into a crazy schedule cycle is that you are more vulnerable to bad food choices and more liable to sacrifice your exercise routine.

3. Feeling not-quite-ready for the holidays, but hey, here they are. Tonight we went to one of those "only-in-Maine" events where Santa came on a fire truck, the Brownies sang, the lighthouse was lit, and a bunch of diver frogmen made a giant fuss over lighting and floating a tiny Christmas tree on a mooring line in the harbor. Somehow this required an effort of hours with at least 5 wetsuited divers and a lot of underwater flashlight activity.
