What can this song be? I just heard it on the radio, and I can't figure it out... →[More:]

It was a guy vocalist, contemporary sound, and I thought for sure the refrain was "It's a shame" repeated three times, then at some point I thought I heard "well, if you don't like my mission, then get out of my kitchen".

But maybe I'm hallucinating. No combination of any of those phrases come up with anything close in lyrics search (that I've found, anyway) - even just "it's a shame".

Does it seem at all familiar to anyone here?

Is it The Jessica Numbers by The New Pornographers? That actually isn't the song I first thought of though - the song I first thought of is slower and it's a more high-pitched male voice singing. I can't remember it though!

I'm going to go lock myself in the bathroom here at work and hum to myself until I remember it.

Ooo also, the Britney Spears song Gimme More has the line "If you're on a mission, you got my permission" and there are a lot of remixes and covers of that.

It's not 'It's A Shame' by The Spinners, is it? Or the song of the same name by Kool G. Rap? Monie Love? Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five? Kriss Kross? Shakin' Stevens? The similarly-titled song by The Lemonheads?

Okay, that's a lot of shame, and rest assured that it's only the tip of the, uh, shame spiral.

Nope, not The Jessica Numbers or Gimme More... it definitely has the refrain "it's a shame" (or something that sounds an awful lot like "it's a shame" repeated three times every time it comes up).

None of those, either box! It's a shame.

Chewie, trust me when I say you don't want to hear me singing a few bars of anything.

I've got the station on again... I'm going to have it on 'til they repeat that song - if they ever do.

You can call them - perhaps at the same time tomorrow. If the station has actual DJs, they might remember.

Or, if the station is one of those that plays the same playlist every day, you can just wait till tomorrow.
