Ain't that a man... [More:] As I left work, my iPod shuffled this performance up and it put a glide in my stride and a dip in my hip. Seriously, you can't help but swagger when you hear this song. Muddy is well over sixty here but sings his ass off. The tune changes the Band and Paul Butterfield from stadium warhorses to bar-band again as the whoops and hollers show. Cheers.
Last Waltz is amazing.

I am totally not a blues fan, but wow. Great point about the hollerin' bar show jon. Of course, I am a huge fan of The Band, but you talked me into paying attention to something I might have skipped over previously. Thanks.

Last Waltz is amazing.

I just read a really interesting article about Levon Helm in this week's EW. I had no idea that he hated The Last Waltz.

Well, a lot of great footage was cut and Robbie Robertson is a bit of a screen hog. I used to think Robbie was the coolest guy around, but time has not been kind to him.

Seems like this might be a good time for me to mention, once again probably, that Robbie's pretty much an ass who slyly took sole song writing credit on pretty much everything The Band ever did (because really, when you think about The Band, who doesn't think immediately about Robbie's quietly good solos?) and then called it quits against everyone else's wishes.

I've met a number of people who knew the boys back then, and I have to say that I'm amazed that Levon and Rick especially, because Richard and Garth never did as many interviews, have managed to hold their tongues and not trash talk that arrogant bastard every time a camera was trained on them. What I mean to say is, everyone I've met who knew the band back in the early seventies was of a similar opinion...Robbie was a douchebag.

Levon, by the way, is an amazing guy. He probably should be standing shoulder to shoulder with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and many others who, though flawed as well, have a measure of soul and decency that make others GLAD that they have tread the land.
