I'm writing this in bed! HAWT!! →[More:] The new laptop and router have arrived, and I am experiencing the orgasmic joys of wireless internet.

Question for you already-wireless folks: Do you leave your modem (DSL) and router on all the time? Before, I always turned the modem off when I wasn't using it, but now it kinda seems like spoiling the magic a little if I have to flip on all that other stuff every time I turn on the computer.

Ooh! Congrats! We leave ours on all the time. Do you have a deck? Our wireless works on our deck, which may be my favorite ever. Wireless has spoiled me.

I'm reading this sitting in bed uploading stuff to Flickr and wondering what the hell I did before wireless! Enjoy JanetLand but beware, soon you will stop doing all the other things you used to do in bed as the wireless takes hold of your immortal soul, bwah-hah-hah-ha!

The only time my modem goes off are the odd Monday afternoons when I am sure someone is screwing with things at Internet and I have to unplug it and plug it back in to give it a hard reboot.

Our router has no switch with which to turn it off. The only way to do so is to fumble around the back of the box and unplug it. Even if it did it would, as you say, spoil some of the magic to actually turn it off. Plus, I like all the little lights scattered through the house from various gadgets at night when all the lights are off. That's how I know that all's right with the world.
