Ask MeCha, a mystery to ponder for the ages [More:]
why in the name of Beelzebub's boils does the butter / jelly / cream cheese side alwaysalwaysALWAYS land gooey-side-down?

Why?

Corollary: would you still eat it anyway?
No clue, but I'd eat it after scouring the surface for dirt or hairs and finding none.

Gravity likes goo. Avoid by making a traditional sandwich. Or using bread slices as flooring material.

Because the height of the average counter is such that a piece of bread pushed off the edge will consistently have just enough time for one-half revolution before it splats.

But what about ...

IRFH, I could see your logic in last week's instance where I fumbled a jelly toast and it landed on the floor (from counter height, approximately).

But today, I managed to drop a half-bagel onto the stovetop, which coated the stovetop (and part of a burner) in cream-cheesy goo. Which made a shockingly disproportionate amount of mess, and will probably now cause a stench when that burner's turned on *grump*

and yes, for the curious, I ate both examples... CitrusFreak's pretty much got it, and I do regular cat-hair patrol in the domicile

Not sure why, but, as with all floor-related food incidents, the ten-second rule applies here.

I'd eat it.

I'd eat it if it dropped on the counter but not if it dropped on the floor. Between the cats, the dog, humans and erratic floor cleaning it's not a good idea.
