What do I need to do to get my Bookmarks to appear in the order that I want them, and not in alpha order?

One more - can I get Bookmarks to open in a left-hand sidebar by just clicking on an icon somewhere in the toolbar, or do I have to use that panel thingy? I don't like that.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but you can can click on the left-hand side of the window to bring up the Bookmarks sidebar. Just keep the panel on bookmarks (or alternatively, make it ONLY bookmarks by right-clicking on the bar where you select the panels, and clicking "Customize").
