Well, that is cool. I've seen a lot of characters in old movies chewing on a toothpick, but I never knew it used to be considered a sort of status symbol. (More like an attempt to look upwardly mobile, I mean.)

The marketing ploys are hilarious just because they're so bald-faced... all of that stuff still goes on, it's just buried behind a lot more subterfuge.

Slight derail: These are absolutely awesome. I bought about six packs of them when I was in NY because I can only get them mail order in the UK.

Of course, you can't chew on 'em like a toothpick, but they are fab, especially if, like me, some of your teeth are very close together.
