The building where I live was profiled in the NY TImes today→[More:]more later....
The Streetscapes column? I love the real estate section, because I love hearing about where/how other people live (and how much they're paying! I'm just that nosy- I'm always looking up when I walk around, trying to peek into windows of lofts and condos and little tiny apartments dropped on the top of buildings.
TPS has it...the first five windows on the upper left corner are mine. Gray didn't get it quite right with the layout--one servant room, not two. The woman under me still rents and has an original one. In mine, the back hallway was removed to make a bigger bedroom (which I use as an office) and kitchen. I wish they'd left it alone; the problem is that dirt gets tracked in when stuff is delivered.
It must have been the spoiled retail prince who got rid of the murals in the penthouse; they weren't there when I first saw it (he was trying to sell it and no one lived there) and I asked the agent who helped me buy my place if I could take a look. What Spoiled Prince did is to put silver on the ceiling (it was profiled in Architectural Digest several months ago; without mentioning his name). Who the fuck is supposed to clean that when it tarnishes! The renovator didn't get it right about the bedrooms either--SP's wife had a baby last year and he has two daughters from at least one of his earlier marriages.
The new owner didn't bother to let me know about the renovations he planned to make or how long it would be; I've been hearing construction the past two weeks. When his wife allowed me to take pictures I thought that all they were going to make were minor changes: i.e., painting.
