Bruce Review? Jon? Pips? How was the show? Still sleepin' it off?
My far better better half will report a wee bit later, I'm sure, but since I'm home first...
The concert was, in a word: FANTASTIC!!!!!! Bruce has unbelievable energy. I can't believe he's 58. The music was amazing and the crowd was incredibly into it. It was more like a party than a concert, with 25,000 guests.
I only wish I'd taken the day off so I could've enjoyed it even more. I would have, except I needed to proctor the fucking PSATs for my little monsters. I'd love to see Bruce again sometime (after my ears stop ringing). Jon had already turned me into quite the fan, and now, well, I screamed myself hoarse yelling "Bruuuuuce!" along with everyone else.
Hi, just back from work (and then dealing with some numbnuts supervisor at Circuit City).
The show was a mindfucker. (set list here). Any doubters about the Boss need to see him live. He truly does give his all and is a master frontman. And the E Street Band is as tight as ever. The material from his new album is the best since Born In The USA. Highlights were a hilarious rap about New York and New Jersey*, a ferocious version of 'Adam Raised A Cain,' and a rousing 'Badlands' that had the audience singing along with the instrumental portions, for God's sake. Also, Max Weinberg is among the top 4 drummers I've ever seen (the others being Marky Ramone, Charlie Watts, and Michael Bland who I saw pounding the skins for Paul Westerberg). Another great moment was watching Roy Bittan and Danny federici break out the accordions for 'American Land.'
Miko, LT: you are in for a hell of a show.
*'You got a lot here in New York..the Staue Of Liberty...which is technically in New Jersey..the Giants and the Jets...who play in New Jersey..and your theme song 'New York, new York,'...sung by a guy fromn..New Jersey..'
I love seeing Pips' reaction, too. Seeing the Boss live is an irreplaceable appearance...you just have to do it. I think even if you didn't like his music, you'd still be unable to resist the energy and showmanship, and of course, the crowd energy.
That Jersey rant sounds great! I'll have to look for a boot or a transcript or something of that. Love it. Of course.
I showed LT a concert bootleg DVD, saying "here's a taste of what you're in for." He was only halfway tuned in at the beginning. By the 3rd disc he was staring at the screen immobile...then he turned to me and said "This man is otherworldly." And that was just a video!
Pips, I'm gonna be in the same boat with you about having to work the day of the show (and the day after - it can't be helped). I got tix for the Monday show in Boston (it was my strategy actually, I figured most people would go for Sunday first, and they did, so it worked out. I was lucky to get the tickets). So it means that all day they'll bust us up on the outside, but that night we'll break on through. I'm gonna look for a bar or somewhere there'll be a preshow meetup (since tailgating will be nonexistent).
Hello, my name is Lipstick Thespian. Everyone in my immediate family and many of my friends have seen the man they call the Boss play live in concert.
They seem to think this will change my life. At first, I thought, "what cultish freakishness is this?"
But two nights ago, I dreamt I worked for Bruce Springsteen. He took me to lunch, and by lunch, I mean he took me outside while he went across the street to buy fifty pizzas for a Boys and Girls Club next door.
They tell me the Kool-Aid from last year is better, but to me it tastes fine.
