Is MetaFilter's Own Steve Wozniak dating Kathy Griffin? I think they look cute together.

Yup, they are.

I thought she was cuter when she had curly hair and before all the plastic surgery.
posted by jonmc 15 October | 11:59
They've been dating for a while now. She goes for computer nerds.

I think her ex-husband was some sort of IT professional. Not a Wozniak-level big shot though. I saw it on TV.
posted by mullacc 15 October | 12:03
I just learned who she was (and that she's dating Woz) on Wikipedia. Is she funny?
posted by Hugh Janus 15 October | 12:11
I find her fairly funny, although she sometimes makes the Sarah Silverman mistake of confusing mean with funny.
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 15 October | 12:17
She was awesome on News Radio.

HA!
posted by Hugh Janus 15 October | 12:27
stynxno you are thinking of Vicki Lewis.
posted by arse_hat 15 October | 12:30
She's a pretty good comedic actor (though perhaps kinda limited to wacky-friend roles), but I don't think her stand-up is all that great.

She was awesome on News Radio.

That was a joke, right? Because confusing Suddenly Susan with the brilliant News Radio makes my heart hurt.
posted by jrossi4r 15 October | 12:30
I thought the joke was confusing Kathy Griffin with Vicki Lewis.

Redheads all look the same to me.

I thought the joke was confusing Kathy Griffin with Andy Dick.

WHICH IS SO FUNNY 'CUZ THEY LOOK THE SAME!
posted by Hugh Janus 15 October | 13:28
No matter what the joke is, it's funnier than four seasons of Suddenly Susan.
posted by box 15 October | 13:34
She's not funny.
But they're a perfect match for each other, cuz he's almost as annoying as she is.

She doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Silverman. Sarah's an artiste, Griffin's just a comedy ho (but I'll admit she does the thing she does well).
posted by Hellbient 15 October | 13:42
I can't listen to her. She always sounds like she has a big wad of phlegm stuck to her vocal chords.
posted by iconomy 15 October | 13:47
what the hell is phlegm?
posted by dabitch 15 October | 14:15
She's hilarious if you like pop culture comedy. Even when she's being mean she is aware that she's being mean and is usually funny at the same time. Whereas sometimes Silverman is mean and apparently has no idea she's being mean.

Snot.
posted by deborah 15 October | 14:20
What? Why, he's old enough to be her sugardaddy!

As to the above mentioned plastic surgery, yeah, she is starting to get the inhuman look.

I disagree. She knows exactly what she's doing. Probably more than most famous comedians, actually.

I believe you are correct sir. Not only does she know, she doesn't care, and in fact seems to enjoy it. Whether she is funny doing it, depends on the day.

Sarah Silverman, for as good as I think her angle is, does a shitty job of talking about it, if her Fresh Air is any indication, making her seem as though she doesn't fully "know" what she's doing after all. She seems high.
posted by Ambrosia Voyeur 15 October | 16:07
I'm sure she cares about things, kop, it's just the joke is king.
posted by Hellbient 15 October | 16:08
If I was going to be interviewed on NPR, I'd probably get high beforehand.

See, when I'm high, I pause a lot, and they've got that pause-removing machine. I'd like to really put it to the test.

what does this mean?

She seems high.
I assume you're referring to her standup act. It's an act.
But watch her show, you may get another impression of her.
posted by Hellbient 15 October | 16:17
hellbient - Fresh Air is a show on NPR that does interviews with pop celebrities.

I like The Sarah Silverman Project. I hate to call it "Irreverent," because now-a-days Irreverent often means Crappy.
posted by muddgirl 15 October | 16:33
I have issues with Griffin. ( Since the Emmys if you get my drift.)

So why is that fellow Mefi's own?
posted by bunnyfire 15 October | 18:20
The Sarah Silverman Project

I haven't seen it. I fear that it's bad.
posted by chuckdarwin 15 October | 18:30
bunnyfire, someone asked Metafilter "What's so great about Steve Wozniak?", and he signed up and wrote an answer, which is probably the most favourited comment on Metafilter.
posted by matthewr 15 October | 18:36
Well, what do you know?

(It is interesting how so many really intelligent people really are a tad goofy. I am married to one. Makes 'em charming.)

I can see what Kathy sees in him. The reverse, I'm having a tad of trouble with.

It's the Sarah Silverman Program if I remember correctly. And SS is a bit overplayed, her movie was so catastrophically unfunny. Her whole "I'm like a frat boy with a vagina" thing is tired.

I like Kathy Griffin, her celeb stuff is way too funny. Her character work used to be this weird "annoying girl" routine which I hated. Her show is stage-y and boring, I'd rather just watch her HBO stand up special or whatever.
posted by SassHat 15 October | 21:24
I used to really love Sarah Silverman, but I'm totally sick of her now. I've had enough of the poop jokes. If you're going to be gross and sophomoric, then you have to really, really take it over the top. Simply saying "I have diarrhea" at every given opportunity isn't comedy. It's elementary school.

Kathy Griffin has her moments, I guess, but she's a bit too "nervous" for me. She seems so high strung. I did like her Emmy comments, though, honestly. It's about time winners stop acting like the Almighty gives a rat's ass about them getting a trophy.

I will admit that I have, on occasion, laughed out loud to Andy Dick. Why, I do not know.
posted by jrossi4r 15 October | 21:39
Well, now she'll be on the $-list.

This is exaggerating. A lot. Or, can you give me an example? I've always found plenty of context/justification in her silly/gross jokes.
I don't see her as a "frat boy w/ vag" at all.
posted by Hellbient 16 October | 11:23
I wish I could give you a more concrete example, hellbient, but I can't. She just seems to work it into every routine or interview I've seen of hers lately. I probably just overdosed on her. I used to find her so squirmingly shocking that I couldn't help but laugh. But you get immune to that after awhile. It's the same reason I no longer find South Park funny.
posted by jrossi4r 16 October | 12:29
"it" is her comedic angle. The edge-treading refutation of expectations, especially having to do with standards of feminine propriety. I could go on and on about my view of her place in raunch/counterraunch culture, but I'm working. At my job. Her job is knowing about this. On Fresh Air, when asked what her comedy was about, she basically said "I dunno, it's just, like, funny." Boo.
posted by Ambrosia Voyeur 16 October | 13:50
Well, I didn't see the VMAs, so I imagine a lot of people here may be reacting to that. When I speak of her, I'm generally speaking of her latest thing, which is the show, which I think is brilliant at times. Really. I'll agree that she can occasionally be groan-worthy, but I generally excuse it as the next thing she says is often laugh-inducing.

Honestly Ambrosia Voyeur, it's pretty boring to hear artists explain their motives, meanings etc. I always like it better when an artist leaves the work as is. I bet Richard Pryor would've said nearly the same thing if asked that question. It'd be almost like jinxing it to answer that. I say leave it for the analysts and writers to figure out the whys and whats.
