My mom is going to be soooo thrilled. She has been a crazy-passionate Doris Lessing fan as long as I can remember.

In addition to all of his criticism, did Bloom write a Science Fiction novel. I could have swore I saw a sci-fi book by him once.

Bloom's a brilliant author and literary critic, but, in the eyes of the larger world, I suspect that he's mostly known as that cranky, snobby old man who occasionally deigns to descend from the ivory tower long enough to shit on Stephen King, J.K. Rowling or Doris Lessing. It's a shame.

FANTASTIC. I love Doris Lessing. Fuck Harold Bloom and his pre 1950s canon of what is Right and Good to Read.

dno, you might like the Canopus in Argos books. They're my favorites; I've never thought the Golden Notebook was one of her best.

"Memoirs of a Survivor" was very good. "The Fifth Child" and "Ben, in the world" were OK. Couldn't get through "Briefing For A Descent Into Hell".
