What are your money saving tips for what people hate spending money on? [More:]We can all help each other!

I've been falling more and more in love with RetailMeNot.com, an organized site of coupon codes. Today I save 20% on my order for the church Halloween party- saving $40 ain't no joke! And I've saved shipping costs for a few other orders, too.

And for those who hate spending cash on tampons, there's always the DivaCup. I love love LOVE mine, especially because it saves me cash!
My advice is: do what your parents did! Get a job, sir! The bums will always lose-- do you hear me, TPS!? THE BUMS WILL ALWAYS LOSE!

breakfast - If your work doesn't offer snack foods that can be constituted into a breakfasty offering, you can always find free breakfast at a nearby film, TV, or commercial shoot. Be sure to arrive at 5:30 AM wearing a walkie-talkie with a headset, walk up to craft services, and order whatever you like. If anyone asks you who you are, say you filled your paperwork out yesterday and someone said something about chairs, you saw the AD about fifteen minutes ago, and where's the bathroom?

love - You're shit out of luck. Payment is non-negotiable.

Theft, and wandering around lost. Robbery, assault & battery. Beg borrow steal. Second-hand shops. Beg borrow steal from second-hand shops. Freeganism. Maybe just Freecycle.

I saw that site when you posted it on MeFi, TPS, and can't remember if I thanked you there for braving the inevitable oj coupon jokes to make such a useful post. It even covers Canadian sites! Bookmarked. Thanks.

You're welcome! I figured maybe I had waited long enough to avoid silly jokes, but I was wrong.... oh well. The thread was still lots o' fun!

TPS, when the dude posted the MinuteMaid orange juice coupon site the other day, I really really wanted it to be real. Loved your link to retailmenot.com, and would love any other *real* links to sites with manufacturer's coupons that could be printed and used.

fatwallet.com

They have a very, very dangerous RSS feed.

Yeah, fatwallet, for sure. That's part of how my family gets so much free stuff. That, and my retired dad entering us all in online sweepstakes.

Cool advice and an excellent Lebowski reference. I love this place.

Razorblades--Quit shaving.

In all seriousness- does anyone have an idea for this? I'd really prefer not to go back to disposables, I've grown accustomed to having skin all over all of my legs and think the adjustment back would be upsetting.

I buy Gillette Mach 3 razors -- I firmly believe that the 2-bladed Sensor is all you need for a perfectly fine clean shave, but what the third blade gives you is longevity -- and I've been using the same few razors since January. My trick?

I'm sure things are slightly different on legs, but who knows? Things could be more similar than I think. First of all, I buy shaving gel. Foam canisters dispense too much. With the gel, I can squirt a glob no larger than my pinky nail that will suffice to cover my face.

I wet my face with warm water and my blade with cold water (I think the tighter metal helps prevent blade dulling over the long haul). I shave in broad strokes, overlapping just a little on the edges, and I do not go back over swathes that I've already shaven.

I shave every day so I'm not concerned if I'm closer here or there or if I missed a spot; I can always get it tomorrow.

I rinse my blade very carefully, making sure the blade is dry and unfouled by freshly shorn hair and congealing gel. Then I dry the blade, with a washcloth I've set aside. I think it prevents rust or staining (but it may mean nothing; after all, it is a stainless steel blade).

Just because I don't like leaving a description unfinished, I then rinse my face with warm water from the tap, twelve splashes worth, dry my face with a clean towel, and I'm done. No moisturizers or anything. My facial oils take care of it. I don't wash my face; the soaps in the shaving cream do enough damage as it is. I rinse very well before and after a shave.

I often skip shaving over the weekend.

I know this isn't equally applicable to legs, but there may be a thing or two in here that's uselful. My shaving supplies last forever. I buy a five-pack of blades every year. Sometimes five blades last sixteen or eighteen months.

I've noticed, though, that Gilette razors, when the model is new, last a very, very long time, and then after a year or so, they cut back on some manufacturing process or other and the blades only last a few months each under daily shaving conditions. A can of shaving gel lasts me two years.

I don't throw away a blade after I switch to the next one in the pack. Later on, it might just be the freshest razor in the bunch. I don't replace blades until they're all kaput.

That's not great but it's better than some.

I quit shaving my legs about three years ago. The hair is so sparse/fair/fine that if you see it you had better be the mister. No more dry/scraped up legs, yay! I still shave my pits, but I've been using the same Venus blade for about six months (maybe more).
