So, I'm sitting on the porch, [More:] drinking beer and listening to my iPod Hi-Fi on shuffle and it kicks into Bruce Springsteen's 'Sherry Darling' one of the Boss' most unabashed good-time rockers when I look over onto the sidewalk and see about 15 people walking up towards Ditmars Blvd. all dressed in black. and then I remember: there's a funeral home on 24th avenue one block away. I quickly paused and shuffled to the next song: "Good Golly, Miss Molly" by Little Richard, equally inappropriate. Oy.

(This happened to me once before. I was in my car running errands and stopped at a light when a funeral procession rolled through the intersection forcing me to wait. What was blaring from the oldies station as I sat there? "Good Thing," by paul revere and the Raiders. Let's hear it for irony.
Well, at least your iPod didn't start blasting "Ave Maria".

I wouldn't be surprised if each of those songs have been played at a funeral.

I think "Another One Bites the Dust" would be an awesome funeral song. But then, I'm irreverent like that.

When my MIL shuffles off this mortal coil, she wants us to play "Mustang Sally" at her funeral. May it not happen for bajillions of years, oy!

I used to live a across the street from a funeral home Burlingame. The most interesting thing I saw was when the Pacific Islanders showed up in formal wear, it included a grass skirt. When you see four REALLY BIG guys get out of a car, all wearing grass skirts, it's hard not to stare. My first thought was that the Hawaiian mafia had put out a hit on somebody but then they all walked over the funeral home, and several more cars arrived right after, all with men wearing grass skirts.

I've been to enough funerals to know that nothing in the way of music is inappropriate. But then, most of the funerals I go to are of young-ish people, so maybe that makes a difference.
