Here's a dumb question for ya. [More:]
When I'm on my laptop I can hear the familiar sound effect of a door shutting and lots of clicking while I'm on a web page. What is happening?
Do you have AOL Instant messenger or another instant message program open? The "door shutting" sound is pretty typical for "A friend is logging off".

No, I don't have AOL instant messenger. The only instant message service that I have, and that I know of, is the ability to chat with people on Gmail. Maybe that's it.

I don't feel alone. I feel like people are clicking and shutting doors and I can't see them! ;)

It's not a sound effect on an advert somewhere on the page?

It may be, cillit bang. I'm going to do a little experiment with gmail. I think it may be the culprit.

Sorry, that was me. It wasn't coming from your computer, I was stuck in the space above your ceiling. I'm fine now.

(by "search window" here, I mean the internal Windows search function.)

No scratching noises, just the shutting door sound and loud mouse click noises.
