Matt never said he'd IP ban him, he only said he'd lock dhoyt's (known) accounts, and that he just had to stay away for a while. Matt never said dhoyt couldn't come back (assuming that all of his accounts had been locked in the first place, which may be open to debate)

what's really funny is that dhoyt used one of his sockpuppets (jenleigh, iirc) to self-link on MeFi's front page to his then-blog. that alone would have been enoyugh to permanently ban somebody else, not him though.

and anyway when y2karl outed him, he took quite a lot of shit in the metatalk thread, probably more than dhoyt/jeleigh etc did.

the dhoyt thing just didn't strike people as being particularly bad. whatever. a guy who uses a bunch of accounts (with some of them pretending to be a girl) to start flamewars is probably more pitiful than anything else. that guy needs a therapist more than he needs a IP ban from some website.

I always used to pronounce it, in my head, with a silent "H" -- as a sort of Looney Tunes sound effect:
