Dress-for-a-wedding update I went to Ann Taylor today and came home with this very gorgeous dress. Soooo....what color shoes does one wear with a very dark, midnighty-but-ever-so-slightly-greeny blue? Black, brown, silver, or gold? Leather or patent or satin or suede? Halp plz!
Black leather. Possibly satin, I guess, but black leather is better.

This from someone who habitually wears Chuck Taylor hightops, so take it with however much salt you need.

I would wear silver satin shoes. What a great dress.

That dress is absolutely gorgeous.

You can go one of two routes: Black leather heels with a black leather clutch, or silver satin, with a sparkly bag. I personally prefer the silver satin. I dunno why. Then again, I feel like I remember reading that you don't want too much shimmer. You're supposed to have one big shimmery shiny thing and then the rest isn't supposed to shine? Maybe?

Screw it. Just get a great pedicure and go barefoot.

I agree with the too much shimmer thing - I didn't realize the dress was satin as well; all satin might off a bridesmaidy dyed-to-match vibe. I'd do silver leather. Something strappy. Not ruling out satin though, if I found something really yummy.

Yeah, my worry about satin shoes is that it'll look like I'm *trying* to match and...um...failing miserably. Silver or black sounds like the way to go. And I need some sort of shruggy thing, due to it being October in Portland.

SO psyched about the dress though. Pretty!

Beautiful dress!

I'm leaning toward silver too. Or a goldy-nude. I'm with iconomy -- leather and strappy. A subdued strappy metallic sandal sort of blends if you know what I mean.

On preview, a closed toe may work better in October in Portland. I'm sure you'll find the perfect pair. Have fun!

I say silver.

You don't really want black with a blue dress most of the time (although i do that occasionally I don't prefer it.)

OR you could go with an off white (sometimes called"bone") if you wanted something a wee more conservative.

But if it were my foot it would be clad with strappy silver.

I'd go with silver and a silver bag and silver jewelry.

That dress is fan-fucking-tastic. Can I borrow it?

Hot damn, I need a dress for an October wedding, too... I know where I'm going shopping tomorrow!

I'd go with silver strappy. But definitely strappy of some kind. Nothing too heavy/clunky.

It's a beautiful dress. I wish I weren't too lumpy to wear satin.

Yup, I think something strappy and metallic like this could be fun.

I think anything muted is fine- silver, gray, gold- nothing too flashy or too dark. I like the leopard print shoe shown next to the listing- that'd be real cute!

Hawt! Also, silver sounds like perfect solution. Yum. ANd I'll have to second that b/w leopard print shoe suggestion, really with this dress you could do that!

Silver. Clearly. Although bronze would also be nice. And some sort of shiny marcasite bauble. How pretty!

What a lovely dress.

I wouldn't go with black accessories. For one thing, dark blue and black don't work that well together because there isn't enough contrast between the two and they just look like they don't quite go together. For another, I'd want to lighten the dress up so it doesn't look too sombre. Silver, gold or bronze would work. You could also go with a cream or taupe.

That sandal phoenixc linked to was lovely, I thought.

Here are some other possiblities:

Mary Jane (delicate version)
Open toe
Low heel
Slides
Slingbacks
Splendid slingbacks
These awesome evening sandals in "pewter"
• Or you could splurge for these Stella McCartney pumps

Whatever you do, don't wear these!

(Sorry if I went overboard. I ... umm ... I like shoes.)

Ha! I'll make sure to avoid those, Brina :)

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got some sort-of pale gold strappy sandals already that I'll see if they work with this dress. I bought them years ago (they were my prom shoes) and liked them so much I went back and got them in black, and I'm still kicking myself for not buying them in silver when I had the chance.

Scody, Ann Taylor is pretty much my "I need something totally hot but appropriate and I don't want to wade through the department-store racks" fancy dress store. I like their professional clothes too although I'd like them more if they were washable. And their sale racks can be DEVASTATING.
