Odd behavior, even for a cat. Whenever I give my cat, Yukiko*, something he really, really likes, like chicken or fried fish, using my hand, he goes into this weird dance where he balls up and his hair sticks out,[More:] and he sort of skitters around the place, rubbing up against the food, my hand, furniture, etc., comes back, sniffs the food, balls up, etc., 3, 4, or 13 times before actually being able to eat the damn food. It's cute as hell, but strange.
My previous 3 cats didn't do this.
It's sort of related to the way Snuffles used to react to getting a biscuit from Quick Draw, only it happens before he actually eats anything and sans the floating in the air part.
I get the feeling it's a way of saying "thanks!" or "you're finally learning!", but wonder if any other cats you're familiar with do something as odd as mine.

*yes, I know it's a girls name, now, not when I named him. On the other hand, I also had him neutered, so giving him a gender-inappropriate name seems like the least of my sins vis a vis his sexuality, no?
Don't worry about the name, signal--I don't even know my orange cat's (Mugwump) gender. He looks like he's got boy parts, but Petco insists she's a girl, but I don't think it really matters.

Just be glad you can give Yikiko so much pleasure from a little bit of food.

I do the exact same thing if you give me a beer.

For me, it's a cupcake.

(I miss having a kitty.)
