10 September 2007

I went to a booksale today and bought some books. What did you buy today?

Here's what I got for 13.50.

Those are some good titles... I love book sales.

I am in a quandry about what to do with some money I was given recently: new guitar or new lens. I could spend the money on either and be happy, but can't get both.

I honestly don't know what to do.

I didn't buy anything, aside from my lunch. I consider that a victory!

Uh, whatever happened to saving money? CONSUME, CONSUME LITTLE PIGGY!

Oooh book sales.

I didn't buy anything today. I do all my spending in the weekends. During the weeks I generally spend around $5.

*laughs* I know! I'm feeling really weird about it, Eideteker! I've never had money before, and I am really uncomfortable.

I am saving 90% of what I was given, and I STILL have enough for a new guitar, which I desperately need for work, or a new lens... which I desperately need for work.

I will still being earning money playing guitar and taking photos even if I don't get either thing... (it's what I did all weekend)... that much is true. But not not as well as I could with a proper guitar or a proper lens.

I don't have a single lens that's worth a damn and all my guitars are cheapos that have been played to death.

I am in the process of making a list of things I'm going to buy on my way home:

salad greens
broth
white wine
peanut butter
crackers

I also did buy lunch, a roast pork sandwich with red cabbage and jalepenos, and split-pea soup.

I didn't buy anything today save for a muffin at breakfast...I spent enough on the weekend to make up for it though - a little black dress, a couple of sweaters and a tunic - all on sale! Plus a pair of new runners which I really needed. I do like me a good book sale though!

I spent no money today, actually, although I am trying to find a replacement for the wind-up made-in-tawain alarm clock that a girlfriend gave me at the triptoy store, but which I broke Saturday when I knocked the bedside table with the vacuum and it fell over. Not having any luck, however.

decaf coffee ($2.15), hair conditioner ($1.29), stamp ($.08). And I checked out $25 worth of stuff from the library more or less.

A hamburger and a small vanilla shake. I'm so weak.
posted by LoriFLA 10 September | 19:52
2 return air filters, 1 brass hose nozzle, 2 beers and 1 bunless hamburger.

A bottle of wine and a sympathy card (unrelated).

It's fun to think of it that way.

A really awful ham sandwich - you wouldn't think you could screw up something that simple, would you? - a bag of chips, and a bottle of water. Sadly, due to circumstances beyond my control, that was my dinner. :(
posted by bmarkey 10 September | 20:05
4 beers, a pack of smokes, 2 bags of peanuts and 2 loads of laundry.
posted by jonmc 10 September | 20:06
I bought a coffee on the way to work this morning. I may buy something for lunch later, I may not. I'm impulsive like that.

jonmc, are you and Hugh the only smokers here?

Good, good. It's nice to have some left over to enjoy, as well. I rush to judgement out of love (learned that one from my mother).

Even better, Eid, we payed off all our credit card debt before we even counted it (I sadly ran up a big airfare debt when my father passed).

We don't waste money or take big loans... I've seen debt rip too many marriages apart.

INTC @ a bit above close ($25.45). (Program point trade).

A roast beef sandwich, chips, and a drink for lunch. I just agreed to buy tickets to a sold-out show from a guy on Craigslist for only $10 above face value+taxes/fees, but I won't pay for them till tomorrow.

I paid $18.75 ransom to my local laundromat to get my clothes back.

Nothing at all today, hurrah!

No. I just won't need to buy any until tomorrow. :)

Six pack of soda, six pack of beer, roast beef wrap sandwich, peppermint schnapps, soda from the machine, stat-tracker from Yahoo fantasy sports. Gah. That's about thirty dollars.

I bought leggings for riding my bike this autumn. Did you know that just about no one in Anchorage sells leggings without the bottoms bootcut or straight? That I had to go to four separate sports-type stores before I finally found one lowly pair, thankfully in my size, in an ancient clearance bin?

$17! Woo!

rewarded myself with a spanking new pair of ($60! on sale!) sennheiser adjustable in-ear headphones, now that my 3 year old fontopias have finally bitten the dust. Sony makes a decent pair of 'phones, unfortunately the fontopias have a reputation for rather fragile wires, something that's not a good fit with my abusive habits active lifestyle. They were hastened, might I add, in their demise by the fact that the sunscreen I use completely dissolved the rubber wiring insulation such that their final months were spent as a progressively ugly wad of electrical tape. finally the music through them just got fainter and fainter and fainter and fainter...

"... spanking new pair of ($60! on sale!) sennheiser adjustable in-ear headphones ..."

You're gonna love 'em, I'll bet, lfr. I have a 3 year old pair of lowly PX100's that I've grown to love. And down the hall, I've Martin Logans. Not that the PX100's replicate what the Martin Logans do, but, they don't do what they do worse. Which says a lot for the cheapie Sennheisers.

I bought nothing today.
posted by arse_hat 10 September | 22:47
paulsc, you're probably right. for the record these are what I bought... apparently they're newish or something, cos even Amazon doesn't have reviews or even much info out on them yet, tho they want $70 and won't pay shipping, so it looks like I got a decent deal.

I was merely looking for something comfortable for my hard-to-fit and finicky ears. These are a nice compromise between in-ear (which hurt like hell and/or fall out) and over-the-ear (which aren't practical for using with a portable mp3 player in active pursuits), and 'earhook' styles (which just plain don't fit me).

I was pleased to find a pair of Senns in a price range I could afford, and the ergonomics are surprisingly clever. Time will tell whether the little volume slider dealie is clever design or pure annoyance as it doesn't have a lock.

tho I doubt I would know for beans about that fancy set of martin logans you've referenced. I tend to listen to questionable mp3 rips on itunes via a $12 pair of altec lansing computer speakers i bought on clearance @ Target... so yea.

Turkey sandwich, brownie, cola, blueberries, two new kinds of apple, Washington and Jefferson dollars, diet red bull and water to sneak into movie, crappy lounge food and cocktails

I bought a book called Riddley Walker that I'm really looking forward to reading.

Nothing because the blasted Jeep is in the shop and I have no transportation nor anything close enough to walk to. Well, Subway and the vet is walkable but I didn't need/want anything from either of them.

PS: The Cat's Cradles book looks like fun.

For breakfast, some kind of bread thing. For lunch, I bought some oatmeal and a sandwich. The oatmeal is so I don't have to buy the sandwich for the next few weeks.

I bought $429 worth of veterinary services. And a diet soda.

Nothing thus far.
But I bought $150 in fabric and sewing odds and ends since Friday, so perhaps I should slow down a bit.

And then I discovered my DVD-R drive had croaked. (I think. It just doesn't seem to want to admit it when it has a disk inside)

I bought German pencils a few days ago. Staedtler is the best. .20 apiece, except for the mechanical pencil which has an amazing, non-smudging soft lead and a huge eraser.
posted by craniac 11 September | 20:56
Oh, and regarding lens/guitar. If you don't have a decent guitar, then get the guitar.
