Why must stupid people breed? Mother with four kids in her van races an eastbound train and beats it to the crossing, fails to see westbound train that smashes her van and kills two of the kids. (traffic video)
God that's awful. I almost hope that woman dies from her injuries, I don't think any human could live with something like that in their past.
I remember my mom telling me about a woman who had accidentally fallen asleep and knocked a candle over. She took care of her in the ER. The fire killed her two children, and the hospital had to put the woman on suicide watch. When she did eventually get out she killed herself within the month. And in that case it was a mistake, somewhat careless, but not an attempt at some insane death-defying stunt.
Yeah, my first reaction was, "how much time did she seriously think she was going to save by trying to beat train(s)?"
Also, why the fuck does it bother people so much to wait for trains? I live a block away from a set of train tracks (in fact, I'm guessing it's connected to one of the train tracks in the video) and so a few times a week I end up sitting in my car waiting for trains...and it doesn't bother me a bit. I actually enjoy looking at the train cars to see the graffiti and such.
I don't know if this was a regional thing or not but one of the very first things I remember going over in driver's ed was DO NOT TRY TO BEAT AN ONCOMING TRAIN.
And I'm really really bothered by another thought that went through my head the first time I saw this video - but if this woman was more than willing to try to beat the train(s) - because she went all around that parking lot as if she was a race car driver - with her kids in the car then does she even give a crap that she killed a couple of them?
As a driver and a motorcyclist, I'm only scared of two things: minivans and handicapped plates. The scariest driver I've ever seen was in a minivan with HC plates, blasting down I-84 at about 95 miles, weaving in and out of traffic.
Damn, them's some meaty kids. I guess she saved them the slow death of midwest heart disease.
Disclosure: I have tried to beat trains on my motorcycle, because it is fun. But I always make sure I've got plenty of room between myself and the train before I blast under those falling gates.
