For everyone who loves those non-scientific "news" stories Here's Ben Goldacre with an eye-opening article on how they can be created
If I were Supreme Benevolent Dictator of the US, I would require all non-peer-reviewed, "scientific articles" to post a large banner above the headline saying,

"THIS ARTICLE MAY POSSIBLY BE COMPLETE NONSENSE."

If the article is written by a journalist with no scientific training, post-freshman-year-in-college, the footer should read,

"THIS JOURNALIST MAY NOT KNOW WHAT HE OR SHE IS TALKING ABOUT."

Furthermore, press releases that are "spun" into actual news stories will read

(Sorry for the shouting)

Unfortunately, we already have a Supreme Benevolent Dictator, and he generally doesn't know what he's talking about.
